An electrode composition that includes an electrode material consisting essentially of at least one electrochemically inactive elemental metal and at least one electrochemically active elemental metal in the form of an amorphous mixture at ambient temperature. The mixture remains amorphous when the electrode composition is incorporated into a lithium battery and cycled through at least one full charge-discharge cycle at ambient temperature.

An electrode composition that includes (a) an electrochemically active metal element which, prior to cycling, is in the form of an intermetallic compound or an elemental metal and (b) a non-electrochemically active metal element. The electrode compositions have high initial capacities that are retained even after repeated cycling. The electrode compositions also exhibit high coulombic efficiencies.

A lithium ion battery that includes: (a) a cathode; (b) an anode in the form of a thin film which, when lithiated, does not exhibit sustained self-heating at temperatures up to about 100&deg; C.; and (c) an electrolyte separating the anode and the cathode. The battery has a capacity of at least 600 milliamp-hours, a specific energy of at least 100 watt-hours/kg, and a volumetric energy of at least 250 watt-hours/liter.

Telephone testing equipment, particularly a telephone subscriber test set of the type enabling the subscriber to isolate malfunction either in the household interior telephone equipment, including interior household lines and telephone receivers, or in the telephone company central office lines. A test circuit is connected to the household interior lines, so as be interposed between the telephone company central office lines and the household receiver.
