An apparatus which transfers a developed image from a photoconductive surface to a copy sheet. The apparatus includes a corona generating device arranged to charge the copy sheet. This establishes a transfer field that is effective to attract the developed image from the photoconductive surface to the copy sheet. A blade is moved from a nonoperative position spaced from the copy sheet, to an operative position, in contact therewith. The blade presses the copy sheet into contact with at least the developed image on the photoconductive surface to substantially eliminate any spaces between the copy sheet and the developed image during transfer of the developed image from the photoconductive surface to the copy sheet.

Transfer apparatus

A lamp system which erases selected portions of an electrically charged photoconductive member. The lamp has a transparent housing defining a chamber filled with a gaseous medium. A charge is induced across a selected region of the gaseous medium. This causes the gaseous medium to ionize in the selected region so as to emit light rays thereat. The light rays illuminate the electrically charged photoconductive member in the selected region to discharge the charge thereat.

Erase lamp with plural electrodes

A magnetic member in which the magnetic portion thereof is magnetized to saturation impressing a plurality of magnetic poles thereon. At least one non-magnetic portion is integral with the magnetic portion so that the volume of magnetic material within the magnetic member varies producing a magnetic field having a preselected intensity profile. The magnetic member may be utilized in a development system or cleaning system of an electrophotographic printing machine.

Magnet for use in a magnetic brush development system

A system for transferring charged toner in an electrostatic printing apparatus from a photoreceptive drum to a paper web comprises a flexible dielectric belt tensioned across the surface of the drum and having an integral flexible electrode facing the paper web which is located between the dielectric belt and the photoreceptive drum. The electrode is biased by a power supply such that the toner particles are forced by an electrostatic field away from the drum and onto the paper web. Additional flexible electrodes are used to control the electric fields at the leading and trailing edges of the zone of contact between the paper web and the drum.
