A composite metal male fastener is provided. The metal fastener includes an elongate hollow shell made of metal. The shell includes a threaded exterior for insertion or retraction from the threads of a female fastener. In addition, the shell element includes a central bore and a radially extending flange. The male fastener further includes a core element made of a composite material including plastic, fiberglass or carbon fiber or the like. In a first embodiment, the core element fills the shell's central bore and extends proximally from the proximal end of the shell to encapsulate the shell's flange to form a male fastener head. In an alternative embodiment, the shell's proximal extremity includes a radially extending flange to form a male fastener head for rotation of the male fastener. For this embodiment, the core element extends proximally to the shell's proximal end, without projecting beyond the shell's proximal end. The shell may have a closed distal end, or alternatively, the central bore may extend the length of the male fastener so that the core element fills the shell's central bore the entire length of the shell.

Hybrid composite-metal male fasteners

A composite metal male fastener is provided. The metal fastener includes an elongate hollow shell made of metal. The shell includes a threaded exterior for insertion or retraction from the threads of a female fastener. In addition, the shell element includes a central bore and a radially extending flange. The male fastener further includes a core element made of a composite material including plastic, fiberglass or carbon fiber or the like. The core element fills the shell's central bore and extends from the shell to encapsulate the shell's flange to form a male fastener head.

Hybrid composite-metal male fastener

An inset panel fastener is provided primarily for honeycomb substrates, such as those employed in the aircraft industry. The inset panel fastener includes a plastic body portion and a metal female threaded nut positioned within the body. The body includes a cylindrical barrel shape having a top and a bottom. A bore extends through the body from the top to form an opening for receipt of a male fastener. The metal nut has locking threads and is positioned in body's bore at the body's top proximal extremity. The body further includes non-locking plastic female threads integrally formed into said body's bore. The plastic female threads have the same diameter as the metal threads and are immediately adjacent to the metal threads so as to form continuous threads for permitting receipt of a male threaded fastener. The metal female threads are locking threads to provide a locking action for locking a male fastener to the inset panel fastener. Meanwhile, the plastic female threads provide primary load bearing capabilities for the inset panel fastener.

Inset panel fastener

An improved fixture is provided for securely mounting attachments to an underlying substrate. The fixture includes an outer support member, an inner retainer, a biasing means for biasing the inner retainer relative to the outer support member, and stops for controlling movement between the retainer and support member. The outer support member includes a central bore for receiving the inner retainer which holds an attachment, such as a threaded fastener. In use, the fixture is temporarily secured to a substrate with the inner retainer positioned so that the attachment does not engage the underlying substrate. Thereafter, the inner retainer is forced towards the substrate to a second position wherein the attachment engages the substrate. The fixture's stops project radially outward from the inner retainer and are sized and configured so as to engage the outer support member in the second position so as to prevent inadvertent excessive movement of the inner retainer towards the substrate.

Fixture with integral stops

A one-piece construction ring-post fastener is provided for bundling and securing elongate objects such as electrical wires, tubes or hoses. The ring-post fastener includes an axially aligned post, a plurality of spokes radially projecting from the post, and a ring affixed to the ends of the spokes. The ring-post fastener further includes constructions for affixing the post to the support surface, such as male threads of a threaded fastener projecting from one end of the post. Preferably, the end opposite the male threads include female threads of a threaded fastener sized and configured for receipt of the male threads located at the opposite end of the post. Attaching the male and female threads of the threaded fasteners together enables the multiple ring-post fasteners to be stacked upon themselves. Preferably, the one-piece ring post is constructed of a plastic material, such as Nylon 6/6 per ASTM D4066.

Ring-post fastener

A ring-post fastener is provided for bundling and securing elongate objects such as electrical wires, tubes or hoses. The ring-post fastener includes an axially aligned post, a plurality of spokes radially projecting from the post, and a ring affixed to the ends of the spokes. The ring-post fastener further includes means for affixing the post to the support surface, such as male threads of a threaded fastener projecting from one end of the post. Preferably, the end opposite the male threads include female threads of a threaded fastener sized and configured for receipt of the male threads located at the opposite end of the post. Mating male and female threads of threaded fasteners enable the multiple ring-post fasteners to be stacked upon themselves.

A method of treating acute urinary outflow system obstruction caused by disease of the prostate gland by localised electromotive drug administration. The treatment comprises insertion within the prostatic urethra and within the bladder cavity of a urethral catheter which incorporates a specific electrode and is adapted to perform the electromotive administration of a drug or drug mixture into diseased prostatic tissues thereby resolving the pathologies without resorting to surgery.

An intravesical method of treating dysfunctional bladder syndromes by Electromotive Drug Administration (EMDA) of local anaesthetic drugs, anti muscarinic drugs and sympathomimetic agents. The administration of said drugs combined with hydraulic bladder dilatation causes relaxation of the detrusor muscle, reversing the hypertonicity associated with dysfunctional bladder syndromes.

Device for the combined electropharmacological treatment of the bladder and the prostatic urethra including a bougie comprising a flexible tubular body, openings for connection to the outside, an opening in its tip and elastic sealing elements arranged perimetrically around it, the bougie being internally provided with a stem-like electrode having two independent conductors, one shorter than the other, and suitable to perform a combined electropharmacological treatment of the bladder and of the prostatic urethra.

A method of treating recalcitrant indewelling catheter-associated infections including the following procedures: inserting into the lumen of the catheter, a primary electrode whose uninsulated distal section is of a spiral or filamentous configuration physically contacting the internal surface of the catheter; positioning and sealing a secondary electrode-receptacle on the skin area around the exit site of the catheter and around an external section of the catheter so as to form a conical container for holding liquids; infusion of a solution of antimicrobial drugs through the catheter; instilling a solution of antimicrobial drugs into the secondary electrode-receptacle; and applying a voltage differential between the primary and secondary electrodes, in which an electric field is applied to the internal and external surfaces of the catheter, and this field both disrupts hitherto priviledged sites for microorganisms on the surfaces of the catheter and drives antimicrobial drugs into these same surfaces.

Electromotive treatment of catheter-rerelated infections

Intravesical electromotive administration of specified dye substances for localisation and treatment of occult bladder cancers, is disclosed. Innocuous dye substances will provide differential staining of cancerous and normal urothelium; and anticancer dye substances will demonstrate differential staining and also initiate therapy of cancerous lesions. The addition of vasodilating agents will accentuate the differential staining and further promote therapy of the cancerous sites.

Method for localization and therapy of occult bladder cancer

An iontophoretic bioelectrode includes an enclosure forming upper sheet of material having a generally planar outer section circumscribing a raised central section which defines an interior compartment. A compliant, resilient and sticky raised barrier is formed on the underside of the outer section of the upper sheet of material to circumscribe the central section. When placed against the skin of a person, the barrier adheres to the skin to form a seal completely around the central section and interior compartment into which an ion carrying solution may then be introduced for administration, by iontophoresis, into a persons' skin.
