An improved key ring lock assembly including a lock mechanism having an open position and a locked position which is formed by at least a lock barrel, a lock cylinder fitted within the lock barrel, the lock cylinder having a front key way and a lock mechanism contained within the lock cylinder operable by an appropriate key. The lock cylinder terminates in a lock shaft at the back end which is rotatable in response to the manipulation of the lock mechanism via the key. A lock collar is contained within the lock barrel immediately rearward of the lock cylinder and includes a lock shaft receiving aperture to receive the lock shaft and be operable in response to the rotatable movement of the lock mechanism. The lock collar includes an elongate stud mounted on the back end which includes a pair of opposed pin receiving channels formed therein. The lock barrel includes a locking ledge circumferentially positioned along the inner wall and adjacent the back end thereof. The locking ledge is interrupted by a pair of opposed slots positioned approximately 180 degrees from one another and when in the open position, are positioned in registry with the pin receiving channels formed in the lock stud. A key cable with opposed ends is provided which includes a pair of lock pins secured to the ends thereof, each lock pin having a lock groove being sized to allow the locking ledge to ride within the confines thereof.

The present invention discloses an automatic locking device for effecting the locking engagement of a lock stud within a stud receiving fixture adapted for locking two complimentary structures together formed by a lock mechanism of the type provided with a lock stud mounted on one of the complimentary structures, the lock stud having a predetermined diametric dimension and threaded along the exposed end thereof, the outer exposed end being terminating in a nose portion which has a diametric dimension slightly in excess of the diametric dimension of the lock stud. A stud receiving locking means is mounted on the opposed complimentary structure and in substantial linear alignment with the lock mechanism. The stud receiving locking means is provided with at least two movable members being normally biasingly urged together and having an apreture formed by the members diametrically sized to be complimentary with the diametric dimension of the lock stud when the members are in the rest position. The stud receiving locking means is provided with internal threads formed along the aperture which are complimentary with the threads on the lock stud, and the nose means being capable of biasingly urging the movable members apart to accommodate the insertion therein of the threaded lock stud until the threaded portion of the lock stud meets the threaded aperture between the movable members. The biasing means then urges the movable members back into their rest position in face to face touching relationship thereby to threadingly engage the aperture threads with the lock stud threads and thereby engage the lock stud to the stud receiving locking means.

Automatic locking device for pop out handle locks

An improved axial split pin tumbler type lock is provided. The improvement consists in providing a cylinder having a lock head formed with a square-shaped keyhole defining a front face on the lock head, and a three-part plug assembly inserted in the cylinder. One of the three-part plug assemblies consists of a cylinder head having a forward end provided with a square-shaped cut-out section formed therein, the square cut-out section radially traversing the tumbler bores formed therein. A tubular key is provided having an inner circular core, and an outer square-shaped face adapted to matingly engage within the square-shaped keyhole in the lock head and the square-shaped cut-out section in the cylindrical head portion. The square-shaped front face of the lock head includes a series of thickened face sections alternating with a series of thinner face sections. The driver tumbler positioned in the bores of the cylindrical head ride immediately beneath the square-shaped front face of the lock head such that the tumblers are at least partially shielded from manipulation by a lock pick by the thickened sections of the front face thereby to render the lock more pick resistant.

There is disclosed an improved handle assembly which relates to a pop-out T-handle lock assembly of the type having a cylinder front handle which mates with a cylinder housing, which in turn houses a cylinder lock and related extension rod therein. The improved handle assembly is formed by providing an inner handle secured to the cylinder housing at the front end thereof, the inner handle having a pair of opposed attachment flanges extending outwardly therefrom. Each of the attachment flanges includes a screw receiving channel formed along the inner surface thereof, and the cylinder front handle is provided with a pair of opposed threaded apertures in spaced apart relation traversing side walls thereof and positioned to be in registry with the screw channels formed in the inner handle when the cylinder front handle is mounted to the inner handle. A pair of threaded screws are provided for removably engaging the cylinder front handle to the inner handle, the threaded screws being received through the threaded apertures and through the screw receiving channels formed in the inner handle. The assembly permits the easy removal of the cylinder front handle to gain access to the inner handle and the related cylinder housing and associated lock and extension rod.

An improved keeper lock for a zipper-type slide fastener. The lock includes a barrel assembly of a tubular barrel and an anvil fixed to and projecting readily from the barrel, the anvil adapted to receive the slide fastener when the fastener is moved to its closed position. A key operated lock assembly is telescopically and rotatably received in the barrel for limited axial sliding movement. A keeper arm is fixed to and projects radially from the lock assembly adjacent to a proximal end of it and the lock assembly and keeper arm are capable of both angular rotation and axial movement so that it may assume a fully telescoped locked position with the keeper arm closely overlying the anvil for confining the slide fastener between the keeper arm and the anvil. It may also assume an unlocked position wherein the keeper arm overlies the anvil and is spaced apart therefrom. The improvement includes means to align the keeper arm over the anvil when the keeper arm is in a partially telescoped and unlocked position such that it may assume a fully telescoped locked position with the keeper arm closely overlying the anvil by applying an axial force to the keeper arm. The alignment means includes an upstanding finger arm, a slidable locking bolt which engages a groove in the barrel.

There is disclosed an improved handle lock assembly of the type generally including a handle lock barrel reciprocally carried relative to a lock stud, the lock stud having an interiorly threaded end for threadedly engaging a fixed stud aperture, the handle lock barrel and lock stud being carried within the confines of a fixed lock guide formed integrally with a handle flange including a handle recess into which the handle may be lockingly secured by a lock provided in the handle and having a bolt for securing the handle lock barrel to the lock guide against a bolt shoulder provided in the handle flange, the improvement consisting of bolt guide shield means carried on the lock guide and extending for a distance down the length of said lock guide, the bolt guide shield means encircling and completely enclosing the lock guide in a manner sufficient to prevent access to the bolt securing the handle lock relative to the handle flange when in the locked position, the bolt guide shield means formed integrally with the lock guide whereby unauthorized access to the bolt securing the handle lock within the handle recess when in the locked position is obviated.

Handle flange assembly

A key is an assembly of a thermoplastic handle and a blade, which are formed separately from each other. The blade is substantially flat, and includes on each of its opposite sides a plurality of parallel longitudinal lands having forwardly-facing bittings thereon, and a plurality of parallel longitudinal grooves which alternate with the lands and space them apart. The bittings serve to engage transverse rows of axially reciprocatable tumblers in a cylinder lock, and the grooves receive lock wards therein, while the distal end of the blade engages the lock to determine the depth of insertion of the key blade. The blade also is provided with a capture pin opening, and with a proximal end structure which cooperates with the handle in assembling the key. The blade is made from a length of bar stock which is rolled in order to form lands and grooves on the sides of a flat strip. The lands preferably project laterally outwardly for different distances, to provide increased security and to increase the number of possible key changes. Thereafter, the bar is stamped to form openings and recesses, and cut into individual key blade blanks. Forwardly facing bittings are provided in the lands of each blank, by milling from a distal end of the blade. The proximal end of the blade is inserted into a pocket formed in the handle and secured by the application of ultrasonic wave energy.

There is disclosed an improved rotatable cylinder lock of the type formed by a cylindrical housing and a removable elongated lock core, the cylinder housing including a tumbler block positioned within the cylindrical housing and extending inwardly with respect to the cylindrical housing, and a tumbler ledge having an interior peripheral surface mounted within the cylinder housing adjacent the tumbler block and extending circumferentially for a portion of the periphery of the cylinder housing, the lock core including a plurality of lock tumblers and a release tumbler which is positionally carried by the lock core to ride on a shoulder formed by the tumbler ledge throughout the rotational movement of the lock core, except in the unlocked position when the release tumbler is positioned such that it is free of blockage by the tumbler block thereby to permit removal of the lock core from the cylindrical housing, the lock core further including a block restrictor relief section formed therein which accommodates the rotational movement of the tumbler block therein and also accommodates the release of the release tumbler to permit removal of the lock core from the housing. A further improvement of the cylinder lock permits the lock tumblers and the release tumbler to be configured identically thereby eliminating the need for any specially configured release tumbler.

A machine for cutting flat keys having extending tumbler-receiving recesses includes a mount for a key blade blank, a mount for a cutter, mechanism mounting the blank mount and the cutter mount for movement relative to each other for cutting a longitudinal tumbler-receiving recess in a blade blank mounted on the blank mount with a cutter mounted on the cutter mount, and mechanism mounting the blank mount and the cutter mount for adjustment of their relative positions to adjust the position of the cutter transversely with respect to the blade blank, whereby a plurality of tumbler-receiving recesses may be cut in the blank thereacross. A holder for the blade blank is pivotally mounted on the blank mount for 180-degree rotation about the longitudinal axis of the blank, whereby the recesses may be cut in opposite sides of the blank.

Key-cutting machine

A picking tool adapted to open a cylinder lock of the axial pin tumbler type having its tumblers arranged in a coplanar configuration, includes a planar torquing core insertable into the lock keyway in a longitudinal direction, a plurality of longitudinal guideway channels formed on opposing faces of the core, and respective tumbler probes longitudinally reciprocable in the channels. A holder, which acts as a handle for manipulating the picking tool, also serves as a housing surrounding the core and the probes. The holder is formed with a pair of radial openings in opposite sides thereof which receive respective brake segments for exerting a frictional drag on the probes. An adjustable hoop clamp surrounds the brake segments for manually adjusting the frictional drag, so that the proper tumbler displacement action can be achieved. Setscrews are threaded into the body of the holder for clamping the probes in their final tumbler-displacing positions. At the rear of the holder, the tail ends of the probes fan out circularly so that they can be more easily manipulated individually. The probes have indicia from which the lock code can be read out after the probes reach their final positions.

Lock-picking tool and method of use thereof

A cylinder lock mechanism includes a tubular barrel, a lock cylinder rotatable in the barrel, tumblers longitudinally and reciprocally movable within the cylinder, a cap on a front end of the barrel and having a key opening therethrough, a facing member interposed between the cap and the cylinder and having an opening registering with the cap opening, a spacer interposed between the facing member and the cylinder and having an opening registering with the cap opening, such openings when in registry receiving a key for insertion thereof into engagement with the tumblers, an engagement member extending transversely of the cylinder for engagement with the tumblers and laterally movable to and from the tumblers, a locking member extending longitudinally of the cylinder for engagement with the engagement member and laterally movable to and from the tumblers, structure on the cylinder and the barrel respectively for engaging the locking member therealong for locking purposes, structure on the tumblers for engaging the engagement member to support the locking member in a projecting position with respect to the cylinder for locking purposes, and structure on the tumblers permitting the engagement member to move towards the tumblers, thereby to permit retraction of the locking member from the projecting position for unlocking purposes, the engagement member and the locking member being free-floating in the lock mechanism with respect to the cylinder and to the barrel.

Cylinder lock mechanism

An improvement in a plate tumbler-type cylinder lock mechanism including an elongate barrel having a longitudinal bore therein, and a key plug having a body portion and a shaft portion extending therefrom, such plug being received rotatably in the bore with the body portion extending between opposite ends of the barrel and the shaft portion extending outwardly from one end of the barrel, the bore having a draft-induced longitudinal taper widening in the direction of the said one end of the barrel, such improvement including journal means on the body portion and projecting laterally therefrom for journalling the plug in the barrel adjacent to the said one end thereof, thereby to minimize lateral play between the plug and the barrel thereat. Preferred structure for limiting the rotation of the plug embodies stop means for interengaging the journal means and the barrel.

A plate tumbler for a cylinder lock mechanism, such mechanism including a tubular barrel provided with an internal longitudinal groove, and a key plug assembly rotatable in the barrel, such assembly including a key plug, a plurality of plate tumblers transversely reciprocally movable in slots in the plug and each having an end received in the barrel groove in a locking disposition of the mechanism, and spring means biasing such tumbler ends into the groove, such tumbler being relieved along the side edges of a body portion thereof, as compared to conventional tumblers, at diagonally opposite corners of the body portion, to provide a trailing edge having an arcuate end portion received in the barrel groove in the locking disposition of the mechanism and an adjacent oblique portion at one of the corners, and a leading edge having an oblique end portion at the diagonally opposite corner, whereby the arcuate end portion of the trailing edge hooks over the key plug while the oblique end portion of the leading edge engages the adjacent wall of the tumbler slot when picking torque is applied and the tumbler is manipulated, thereby to prevent the tumbler from being moved into a plug-release position within the plug in a picking operation.

A single key-operated keeper lock for a zipper-type slide fastener includes a barrel assembly of a tubular barrel and an anvil fixed to and projecting radially from the barrel, a plug assembly of a lock cylinder rotatably received in the barrel and a keeper arm fixed to and projecting radially from the cylinder adjacent to a proximal end thereof, the plug assembly being rotatable relative to the barrel assembly between alternate positions for alternately securing a fastener element between the keeper arm and the anvil, and releasing the element, tumblers carried by the cylinder, movable into engagement with the barrel to prevent the relative rotation, and movable out of such engagement by insertion of a key in the cylinder in the direction of the axis of rotation, a locking bar reciprocally movable in the barrel rectilinearly along such axis between a base portion of the barrel and a distal end portion of the cylinder, the base portion defining a recess receiving the locking bar in each of the several positions of the locking bar along the axis to prevent relative rotation between the barrel and the locking bar, the distal end portion of the cylinder having a pair of flanges defining between them a recess receiving the locking bar to prevent relative rotation between the cylinder and the locking bar and thereby also between the plug assembly and the barrel assembly, a spring resiliently biasing the locking bar into the recess in the distal end portion, and a stem on the locking bar and received in the distal end portion of the cylinder for engagement by the key being inserted to move the locking bar out of the latter recess, thereby to free the plug assembly for rotation relative to the barrel assembly.
