Complementary couplers useful in providing a coupling through which liquids may be transferred from a first storage reservoir or tank to a second storage reservoir or tank, which can be an on-board fuel tank of a motorized vehicle. There is a first coupling which is configured to be in fluid communication with the interior of a receiving vessel, fuel tank, etc. and a second coupling which is intended to be in fluid communication with the contents of a storage reservoir containing a chemical, liquid fuel, etc. The disclosure also includes a process for charging a fuel reservoir on board of a motorized vehicle from a remote reservoir, wherein the vapor in the fuel reservoir is displaced by an equal volume of fuel delivered from said remote reservoir, and wherein the vapor in said fuel reservoir is simultaneously caused to be transferred to said remote reservoir, thus permitting no escape of the vapor from said fuel reservoir to the surrounding atmosphere. Through use of the present disclosure, more rapid liquid transfer through individual couplers occurs with reduced losses of liquid chemicals, fuel, etc. versus prior art couplers. A remote reservoir useful for recharging fuel to a motorized vehicle, having a two way pressure equilibrium valve is also provided.

Provided are nozzles useful for controllably transferring any fluid including without limitation liquids such as hydrocarbon fuels from a first reservoir to a second reservoir. Dispensing nozzles as provided herein have several advantages, including increased control by the technician who is transferring the fluids over the nozzle itself by virtue of greater physical control and less operator fatigue. In addition, a small amount of force applied to the dispensing lever results in a relatively large opening of the control valve mechanism. Further, when line pressure is zero or near zero, it is not possible for un-metered fluid leakage to occur, which provides cost advantages to large volume vendors of liquids such as hydrocarbon fuels which are dispensed on a routine basis, such as at airports. Safety is also greatly enhanced, since latent quantities of fuel cannot flow out from lines equipped with the nozzles provided when supply lines are not pressurized.

Fluid transfer coupling

Provided herein are couplings useful in the transfer of liquid fuels from a remote storage reservoir to an on-board fuel tank of a motorized vehicle. The disclosure also includes a process for charging a fuel reservoir on board of a motorized vehicle from a remote reservoir, wherein the vapor in the fuel reservoir is displaced by an equal volume of fuel delivered from said remote reservoir, and wherein the vapor in said fuel reservoir is simultaneously caused to be transferred to said remote reservoir, thus permitting no escape of the vapor from said fuel reservoir to the surrounding atmosphere. Through use of the present disclosure, spills of fuel are essentially eliminated, and the escape of vapors from the vehicle's fuel tank are prevented, thus preventing atmospheric hydrocarbon pollution.

Fuel transfer coupling

Provided are adapter caps comprising a housing having a top, a bottom an edge, and a hub at the top of the housing. A plunger is slidably disposed about the hub, and a plurality of lock fingers are pivotally attached to the housing substantially at the edge, the lock fingers being actuable, responsive to movement of the plunger. A guide including an inner circular wall and an outer circular wall with the inner circular wall having a passageway disposed therethrough is present at the bottom of the housing. A cap as provided is selectively attachable to a coupling fitting having a first passage through which a liquid may pass and a second passage separate and distinct from the first passage through which vapor may pass, to provide accurate fuel level readings of a reservoir to which the coupling is attached.

The present invention provides a valve device by which samples of fluid materials may be removed from tanks, conduits, pipes, or sealed streams in which or through which they are caused to reside or travel. The device of this invention contains a reduced number of connections than devices of similar import in the prior art and further include an enhanced safety provision which prevents fluid leakage and inadvertent disconnection between the valve of this invention and a receptacle that is intended to receive the sample. The device of this invention is especially well-suited for use in routine sampling of the quality of aviation gasolines, turbine fuels, or the like at their point of use for contaminants detectable by a filtration method. However, a valve assembly according to this invention may be used in other applications requiring an accurate sample of material to be safely taken from containments which include inter alia, the aforementioned vessels.
