An embodiment combines the concepts of image enhancement and voice-sound command and control to enhance the experience of viewing images by tracking where the viewer is indicating with his/her voice. The result is to make the viewing experience more like viewing the original scene, or to enhance the viewing experience in new ways beyond the original experience, either automatically, or by interacting with a photographer's previously specified intentions for what should happen when the viewer identifies, with his/her voice sounds, including, but not limited to, words, voice tone, voice inflection, voice pitch, or voice loudness, a particular portion of an image or images taken by that photographer.

The result is to make the viewing experience more like viewing the original scene, or to enhance the viewing experience in new ways beyond the original experience, either automatically, or by interacting with a photographer's previously specified intentions for what should happen when the viewer looks at a particular portion of an image or images taken by that photographer.

Computer software allowing enhanced control of the playout of audio/video works on a computer system. In various embodiments, the software allows key events from dedicated audio/video keys, whether part of a full sized keyboard or on a hand held remote, to control the actions of an audio/video playout program without requiring the user to direct the key event focus of the operating system to the audio/video playout program. Also, the invention distinguishes between key presses from a local, full sized keyboard and key presses from a remote keyboard so that the audio/video playout program can enlarge its screen display when a key event is received from the remote keyboard. In one embodiment, the invention constantly instructs the operating system to move the focus to the audio/video playout program. In another embodiment, if the focus is received by any of various windows in a display, software associated with the window forwards to the audio/video playout program any key events received from audio/video keys. In a third embodiment, audio/video key event data is routed to the audio/video playout program by a method that does not use the key event features of the operating system, such as by using a key board wedge server program to serve key events to audio/video client programs. In a fourth embodiment, the operating system is modified so that it has two separate focuses, one for a text keyboard and a second focus for audio/video keys.

A device in an automobile includes a camera that takes images of drivers while they are driving. It detects and reports when eyes are not on the road for longer than a glance with automated image processing. It also reports how much the car is driven, by whom, when, where, carrying what load, at what speed compared to the speed limit, with what pattern of hard breaking or hard cornering, whether the driver looked into the blind spot before changing lanes, and whether the driver allowed their phone to enter a restricted state while driving. The device may be built in or retrofit. The retrofit device can detect if it is depowered or removed from the vehicle and report this to the insurance company, rental company, parents, and employers.

Computer software allowing enhanced control of the playout of audio/video works on a computer system. In various embodiments, the software allows key events from dedicated audio/video keys, whether part of a full sized keyboard or on a hand-held remote, to control the actions of an audio/video playout program running within a browser environment without requiring the user to direct the key event focus of the operating system to the audio/video playout program. In one embodiment, software associated with the browser window forwards to the audio/video playout program any key events received from audio/video keys.

Device for detecting and identifying call progress tones on telephone lines. The application discloses a device for converting auditory call progress tones to visual indications and a novel circuit for identifying and distinguishing call progress tones based on their on-off cadence, if any, along with various alternative embodiments including: (1) a device which converts call progress tones to visual indications as for use by the deaf, (2) a device which is programmed to automatically go off-hook at certain times, detect a tone such as a stuttered dial tone indicating a message waiting, and activate a visual indicator, and (3) the use of a capacitor or rechargeable battery which is periodically refreshed by the device automatically going off-hook and which, while the device is on-hook, provides power required by the device.

An analog communication signal such as the signal transmitted over a telephone line is converted to digital form for storage in the memory of a computer. Segments of the digital representation of the signal are analyzed to determine whether or not the signal has uniform frequency components repeating at regular intervals. Detection of such regularly repeating uniform frequency components is useful in an automated telephone system to determine whether a telephone signal consists of voice or a call progress signal.
