The present invention relates to a mitre box that is used to guide a saw through a series of cutting strokes as it cuts through a workpiece during a workpiece cutting operation. One aspect of the invention relates to a mitre box that has a pair of aligned slots that extend 90&deg; with respect to the edge of the workpiece, a pair of aligned slots that extend 45&deg; with respect to the edge of the workpiece, and a pair of aligned slots that extend 67&frac12;&deg; with respect to the edge of the workpiece. Another aspect of the invention relates to a mitre box that has an open elongated well for temporarily storing a marking tool during the cutting operations. Another aspect of the invention relates to a molded plastic mitre box that has a storage space extending below the workpiece supporting surface of the base for temporarily storing the saw between cutting operations. Yet another aspect of the invention relates to a mitre box that has a storage space for temporarily storing the saw below the workpiece supporting surface and a releaseable locking member for keeping the saw in the storage space.

Mitre box

A collapsible square constructed according to the principles of the present invention includes a first elongated rigid leg having first and second ends and a second elongated rigid leg having first and second ends. The second elongated rigid leg is pivotally connected at its first end to the first end of the first elongated rigid leg. The collapsible square further includes a hypotenuse member comprising two elongated rigid leg portions. A first of the leg portions of the hypotenuse member and a second of the leg portions of the hypotenuse member have their first ends pivotally connected to the second end of the first elongated rigid leg and the second end of the second elongated rigid leg, respectively. The first of the leg portions and the second of the leg portions have second ends thereof connected to one another in a manner which permits the hypotenuse member to be folded. The first leg, the second leg, and the hypotenuse member are connected to one another so as to be movable between 1) a storage position wherein the first leg, the second leg, and the hypotenuse member are disposed in linear overlapping relation with one another, and 2) a deployed position wherein the first leg, the second leg, and the hypotenuse member form a right triangle. A releasable lock structure disposed at the second ends of the first and second leg portions is constructed and arranged to releasably lock the first leg, the second leg and the hypotenuse member in the deployed position.

The present invention relates to hacksaws. One aspect of the invention relates to a hacksaw with an overmolded frame member wherein the overmolded material has an I-beam configuration. Another aspect of the invention relates to an improved blade tensioning device that reduces the tension load borne by the tensioning device's mounting structure. Another aspect of the invention relates to a method for cutting metal frame members with a reduced amount of scrap.

Hacksaw and method for making the same

A knife handle such as in a utility knife or box cutter knife with a blade carrier having a planar blade support, parallel flanges and laterally projecting tabs for securing the blade in position on the carrier. The knife handle provides improved retention of a knife blade under torsional loads applied to the blade through the use of two or more longitudinally spaced retention tabs that capture both forward and rearward portions of the blade.

The present invention is a saw guiding device for guiding a power saw when cutting a workpiece in the form of either a flat board or an I-beam. The saw guiding device comprises a base member which is to be disposed across end caps of an I-beam. A straight saw guiding surface of the base member is configured such that a power saw can be engaged therewith and slidably moved therealong to thereby guide the power saw in a straight line as it cuts the I-beam. The base member includes an upwardly facing saw supporting surface disposed adjacent the straight saw guiding surface. The upwardly facing saw supporting surface is constructed and arranged to support the power saw as it is engaged with and slidably moved along the straight saw guiding surface between the end caps of the I-beam. The base member has a workpiece edge engaging structure extending downwardly therefrom. A movable workpiece edge engaging structure is constructed and arranged to be moved through a range of operative positions. The movable workpiece engaging structure is fixable at various locations within the operative range. Both the workpiece edge engaging structure and the movable workpiece edge engaging structure are simultaneously engageable with one edge of an I-beam end cap when the base member is disposed across the end caps and the workpiece engaging structure is fixed at one of the various locations of the range of operative positions to set a desired cutting angle at which the straight saw guiding surface is disposed.

A fixed blade utility knife has a housing provided by a lower handle portion, an upper lever portion, and a nosepiece at one end thereof which seats one end of the handle and lever. The lever is pivotably supported on the nosepiece, and a blade holder in the nosepiece is pivotably supported on the handle. The blade is seated in the holder and extends outwardly of the nosepiece, and a blade guard of generally U-shaped cross section extends about the cutting edge and is slidable in the nosepiece to extend outwardly to sheathe the cutting edge and to be withdrawn into the nosepiece to expose the cutting edge. A manipulatable element slidably seated in the nosepiece is engaged with the blade guard to effect its sliding movement. Pivoting of the lever into an open position releases the blade from engagement in the holder so that it may be easily replaced.

A casing for a chalk line dispenser comprises a pair of casing elements which interfit and define a chamber for storing chalk. The casing elements have end walls and sidewalls extending about the periphery thereof with interfitting surface portions along the outer ends thereof. The interfitting surface portion of one of the casing elements has a groove in the end surface of the sidewall extending about the periphery thereof and intermediate its width to provide resiliently deflectable depending wall sections. The interfitting surface portion on the other of the casing elements has a tongue extending about its periphery which seats in the groove and is of greater width than the groove to deflect the wall sections, so that the tongue is firmly gripped by the resiliently deflectable wall sections to provide a seal therebetween.

A utility knife has a handle providing a cavity and an opening at one end, and a slide seated in the cavity for sliding movement relative to the opening. Supported on the slide is a knife blade which moves therewith between a position within the cavity and a position projecting outwardly of the opening. The blade has a cutting edge extending along its lower edge, and the slide has a side wall against which the blade is disposed and a base wall upon which a portion of the cutting edge is disposed. The slide has a cam portion configured to produce a horizontal force component on the cutting edge portion of the blade when the cutting edge cuts into the base wall as a result of the cutting force applied by the user on the outwardly projecting blade.

Fusible panelboard switch

A fast operating disconnect switch minimizes the arc that occurs when the switch contacts are opened or closed by operation of a rotor assembly while the switch is electrically energized. A powerful operating spring within the operating mechanism under the control of a handle operator assembly overcenters upon the ON-OFF as well as OFF-ON movement of the handle operator. The handle operator assembly is adapted for either left-hand or right-hand mounting to a common rotor assembly.

Versatile electric disconnect switch

A modular electrical disconnect switch employs multi-functional component designs for minimum inventory of operating components. The switch replaces a number of switches of different ratings and sizes thereby reducing the total switch inventory requirements.

An adapter module allows circuit breakers and disconnect switches of varying ratings to be installed within a common power panel enclosure. The adapter consists of a plastic base member through which multiple contact jaws extend for plugging onto the individual phase buses of a multi-phase power system. The opposite ends of the jaws include means for connecting with the line terminal of both the electric circuit breakers as well as the electric disconnect switches.

A miniature current limiting circuit breaker incorporates double break circuit interrupting contacts capable of being abruptly separated by a high fault current responsive solenoid acting to first trip the breaker mechanism and then forcibly effect contact separation. The arc chamber is constructed to achieve enhanced blowout of the arc into the arc chute and to develop gas pressures acting to accelerate contact separation. The circuit breaker is trip-free and includes both thermal tripping and internal common tripping capabilities.
