An automatic parking brake for a truck mounted brake cylinder. The automatic parking brake includes rod that is interconnected to a piston of the brake cylinder and can prevent the piston from returning to the brakes releases position. The rod is controlled by locking nut that will rotate if the rod moves axially through the locking nut and a locking sleeve that is moveable between a locked position, where the locking sleeve engages the locking nut and prevents from the nut from rotating, and a released position, where the locking sleeve is disengages from the locking nut and the locking nut is free to rotate. A spring provides a force biasing the locking nut into the locked position, and brake pipe pressure biases the locking sleeve into the released position.

Automatic parking brake for truck mounted brake cylinder

A parking brake for a body mounted brake cylinder having either a single locking mechanism cooperates with a threaded shaft that is centrally mounted within the brake cylinder or with multiple locking mechanisms that are positioned symmetrically about the centerline of the brake cylinder push rod so that the push or piston rod can still accommodate arcuate motion of the level of the braking system. The locking mechanism may be controlled by a mechanical linkage or through a pneumatic circuit. Activation of the locking mechanisms prevents axial movement of the brake piston. As a result, engagement of the locking mechanism may be used to prevent a release of the brakes after then have been applied to provide an automatic parking brake.

Automatic parking brake for body mounted brake cylinder

A sequencing valve for an automatic parking brake. The sequencing valve has a housing with a first port for communication with a source of a brake pipe pressure, a second port for communication with an exhaust, and a third port for communication with a brake pipe pressure input of an automatic parking brake. A valve body in the housing is moveable to either isolate the brake pipe pressure from the input to the parking brake, or couple brake pipe pressure to the input so that the parking brake may be released. A pilot is interconnected to the valve body for moving the valve body from the first position to the second position and can be driven by a charging and partial release of brake pipe pressure, charging of brake cylinder pressure, or a pneumatic signal provided by an electrical or a pneumatic control valve.

Sequence valve for a brake cylinder having an automatic parking brake

The present disclosure relates to a pump system for parking brakes for a rail vehicle. The pump system includes at least one actuator, at least one pump and a reservoir as a fluid source. Also included is a manifold in fluid communication with the reservoir and the actuator. Further included are a plurality of valves and fluid paths internal to the manifold to allow fluid flow among the at least one pump and the reservoir.

Pump system for parking brakes for a rail vehicle

An actuator responsive to fluid signals to retract and extend a piston. The actuator includes a cylinder and a pressure piston carried inside the cylinder. Also included is a shaft, and a rod connected to the pressure piston. The actuator further includes a first port for receiving a fluid pressure to move the pressure piston to a first position. The actuator also has a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism has a first and second surface, and both surfaces are movable in response to the fluid pressure at the first port. The surfaces lock the pressure piston in a first position upon removal of the fluid pressure at the first port.

A fluid parking brake for a rail vehicle having a brake cylinder with a first piston responsive to fluid signals to apply and release the brakes on the vehicle. The parking brake includes a housing having a second piston in the housing and which is coupled to the first piston. An apply port in the housing receives a pressure signal to move the second piston to an apply position. A locking clutch is provided for locking the second piston in the applied position.

Fluid parking brake for a rail vehicle air brake cylinder

A parking brake for a rail car vehicle including an electric motor driving a hydraulic pump fluidly connected to and controlling a bidirectional hydraulic actuator coupleable to the rail car's wheel brakes. An electric controller is connected to the pump and controls activation/deactivation of the pump with the controller including various switches. Also included is a coupler for coupling the actuator to one of a brake beam or an actuator of the parking brake.

Hydraulic parking brake

A valve wherein the stem and valve element are a unitary structure and the stem includes a weakened section adjacent the exterior of the body. Preferably, the unitary structure is a one-piece molded plastic structure. The weakened section is exterior of the body and may be a circumferential groove.
