A storage stable oral composition having a pH of 8 or more which is effective against calculus, the composition containing an orally acceptable vehicle prepared using a sorbitol humectant containing less than about 0.10% by weight of a reducing sugar there being incorporated in the vehicle an effective anticalculus amount a water soluble alkali metal polyphosphate anticalculus salt.

Dental cream in contact with a polyolefin resin surface of a package such as a laminate tube, a mechanical dispenser or a flexible sachet. The dental cream contains a dentally acceptable water-insoluble alkaline earth metal salt, a liquid vehicle, a gelling agent and an additive which prevents syneresis. The liquid vehicle contains water, glycerine and sorbitol. The additive which prevents syneresis due to contact between the dental cream and the polyolefin resin is a nonionic block copolymer containing moieties of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene.

Packaged dental cream

Dental cream in contact with a polyolefin resin surface of a package such as a laminate tube, a mechanical dispenser or a flexible sachet. The dental cream contains a dentally acceptable water-insoluble alkaline earth metal salt, a liquid vehicle and a gelling agent. The liquid vehicle contains water, glycerine and sorbitol and, as an additive to prevent syneresis due to contact between the dental cream and the polyolefin resin, polyethylene glycol of average molecular weight or about 200-1000.

Dentifrice containing a compound which provides fluorine, amorphous silica polishing agent and an additive which supplies calcium ions. The dentifrice is compatible with an unlined aluminum container.

Dental cream suitable for use in an unlined aluminum container comprising between about 35% and 60% of abrasive containing alumina as the major abrasive component and as agents to render the dental cream compatible with an unlined aluminum container, calcium carbonate present as minor abrasive component in amount of at least about 1% of the dental cream and a dissolved or dispersed silicate present in amount of about 0.05%-0.25%. The composition also desirably contains a water-soluble monofluorophosphate salt in amount which provides 0.01-1% fluoride in the dental cream and when the dental cream contains the monofluorophosphate salt and more than about 5% calcium carbonate, an alkali metal tripolyphosphate in an amount up to about 1.5% is also present.

Dental cream suitable for use in an unlined aluminum container comprising between about 35 and 60% of abrasive containing alumina as the major abrasive component and as agents to render the dental cream compatible with an unlined aluminum container, calcium carbonate present as minor abrasive component in amount of at least about 1% of the dental cream and a dissolved or dispersed silicate present in amount of about 0.05-0.25%. The composition also desirably contains a water-soluble monofluorophosphate salt in amount which provides 0.01-1% fluoride in the dental cream and when the dental cream contains the monofluorophosphate salt and more than about 5% calcium carbonate, an alkali metal tripolyphosphate in an amount up to about 1.5% is also present.

Dental cream comprising between about 35 and 60% by weight of abrasive consisting essentially of calcium carbonate and alumina, with the alumina at least about 0.05% by weight of the dental cream and in an amount not greater than the calcium carbonate. The dental cream also contains a water-soluble monofluorophosphate salt in an amount which provides about 0.01-1% by weight fluoride in said dental cream and about 0.1-1.5% by weight of an alkali metal tripolyphosphate as an agent to improve the ability of the dental cream to retain monofluorophosphate as fluoride. The dental cream may also contain 0.025-0.25% by weight of a dissolved or dispersed silicate.
