In accordance with a poker game, a player is dealt a first set of cards, such as 5 cards. The player elects which cards to hold and which cards to discard, if any. Upon discarding any cards, a player is dealt a second set of cards, preferably in the same number as the first set of cards. Subsets of the second set of replacement cards are combined with the cards held from the first set of cards to form final hands of cards. Each final hand is evaluated to determine if it is a winning or losing hand, such as against a standard poker paytable. Awards may be varied depending upon the size of the player's wager and/or the number of cards the player holds/discards from the first set.

Video poker method of play

In accordance with the invention a player may change the size of or 'scale' first game information which is displayed by one or more video displays of a wagering gaming machine relative to other displayed game information. In a preferred embodiment, the size of primary game information such as the images of playing cards or the like may be changed relative to secondary game information such as pay table, credit, and other information. The player may change the scale of displayed game information via player input, such as to a touch screen which overlays a displayed graphical slider. The size of the game information may change proportional to the distance of player input to the touch screen.

The gaming system also includes a configurable display sign associated with the gaming machines. The configurable display sign includes one or more video displays, and the configurable display sign is capable of receiving and presenting downloadable information on the video displays. The gaming system also includes a processor that is in communication with the gaming machines and the configurable display sign. The processor is capable of altering the content displayed on one or more of the reconfigurable video displays and the configurable display sign.

A distributed players' club network comprised of a plurality of games positioned in a plurality of locations that are interconnected by a wide area network to a central computer which has files for each player who has enrolled to play in a bonus club system. The gaming machines have communication devices which send information to the central computer indicative of a player playing at the game and also receive information from the central computer. The communication devices are configured to allow the player to enroll directly at the game by selecting a member ID number and a personal identification number which are then transmitted to the central computer causing the central computer to open a file for the particular player. Further, the gaming machine provides information to a processor within the communication device while the player is playing the game and the processor, in conjunction with the central computer, determines whether the player is entitled to receive a bonus award based upon his or her play. In the event that the player is entitled to a bonus award, this award can be distributed to the player by adding credits to the gaming machine.
