A wooden strip and a plurality of metal clips comprise or define a batten for securing tiles to a roof. Each clip includes a generally flat bottom and a pair of upwardly extending arms. Each arm includes an outwardly extending flange. Each flange includes at least a single barb extending upwardly for securing the clip to the wooden strip. The barbs are punched out of the flanges and extend into the bottom of the wooden strip to secure the clips to the wooden strip. The bottoms of the clips are flat to be disposed on the roof, with the arms supporting the wooden strip off the roof.

Batten elements are made of plastic or metal, such as galvanized steel, galvalume, or aluminum. Several alternate embodiments of battens are shown, along with a schematic illustration of a punch process for making the metal battens of the present invention. The batten elements all include holes or tunnels for the drainage of water through the batten elements. The alternate embodiments are shown in cross section or end view.

Drain apparatus drains an evaporative cooler housing by siphon action. The siphoning action is started when a pump which pumps water for cooler pads is turned off, and the water in a conduit flows downwardly and a valve is switched, directing the downwardly flowing water into a chamber disposed over the overflow standpipe in the housing. The water level in the chamber is the water level in the housing, and the down flowing water fills the chamber, causing the water to flow down the pipe and lowering the atmospheric pressure in the chamber to begin siphoning action. At the same time, a check valve at the bottom of the chamber opens to allow water from the housing to flow into the chamber to drain the housing. Several embodiments are disclosed, including embodiments in which siphoning action may be commenced by raising and lowering a drain hose connected to the standpipe.

Automatic siphon drain apparatus and method

Pump apparatus for an evaporative cooler includes an impeller housing sealed on its top wall by a closed cell foam element and a bearing and seal element. The impeller housing has only one water inlet and one water outlet. The sealing of the impeller housing allows the level of the water in which the pump is disposed to be substantially lower than with prior art pumps, and substantially eliminates air intake into the impeller housing except through the one water inlet. Water outflow is only through the impeller housing outlet. Two embodiments are illustrated.

Single suction inlet evaporative cooler pump apparatus

Evaporative cooler pump apparatus includes a generally round housing having a plurality of slots on the bottom of the housing which provides the function of an integral screen for the pump to screen out debris and which provides the function of absorbing vibration or dampening vibration to prevent motor vibration from being transmitted to the evaporative cooler in which the pump is disposed. The pump apparatus further includes a circular housing for the pump motor, and may include a wall above the pump motor separating the pump motor from a blower disposed above the motor. Cooled air is drawn upwardly over the motor and is expelled outwardly.

Hose connector adapter apparatus for an evaporative cooler float valve includes an integral ferrule for sealing the float valve to the adapter and an internal hexagonally configured passageway through which the water flows and which passageway receives a hex wrench or the like for securing the adapter to the float valve when there is insufficient external clearance for manually securing the adapter to the float valve. The adapter apparatus is able to be secured to evaporative cooler float in virtually any location on a cooler housing, regardless of the cooler housing configuration either by manually securing the adapter or by using a wrench internally.

Blower wheel apparatus for squirrel cage type blowers includes flexible hubs with integral collars for fastening the blower wheel onto a rotating shaft so that the hubs and collars may be moved inwardly for inserting the blower wheel into a housing and then moved outwardly for securing the blower wheel onto the shaft after the blower wheel and shaft are disposed in the blower housing.

Evaporative cooler apparatus includes a relatively thin housing adapted to be secured to a window and a module at the front of the housing adapted to be secured to the housing in any of four orientations so as to fit with the type of window for which the apparatus is to be used.
