A steering system for craft turns a motor from a fixed position to a secondary position. As a result, the craft turns right or left as desired by a user of the craft. A control unit instructs the steering system to turn the craft to a desired orientation. A steering motor is activated that turns a cam attached to a shaft. The shaft is attached to the motor. The cam also includes an indent and sensors to indicate when the motor is in the fixed position or a secondary position that corresponds to a maximum angle for turning the motor. The steering system returns the motor back to the fixed position when the user indicates the steering system is to stop turning, or when the secondary position is reached. The steering system returns the motor back to the fixed position without knowledge of the user. Thus, the motor stays in one of three positions unless instructed by the control unit to turn.

Making denser ceramic sinters by carrying out the sintering operation at elevated temperatures and in 100% oxygen at a pressure of at least 1.5 atmospheres, and then cooling the sinter without control of the ambient atmosphere. The product has a bulk density of at least 98% of the theoretical density of the sinter.

Apparatus and process for filing ceramics

An arrow adapted to be mounted on an archery bow comprises a unitary elastomeric diaphragm having: a clamped periphery, a central opening for receiving an arrow shaft and plural openings through which vanes of the arrow are projected as the arrow is released from the box. The slots intersect and radiate from the opening. The diaphragm is arranged so (a) the arrow shaft is substantially surrounded by and is in contact with interior surfaces of the diaphragm when the arrow is nocked and (b) the interior contacting surfaces as well as diaphragm portions surrounding them move in the direction of arrow flight as the arrow is released. A metal stiffening ring for the clamped diaphragm periphery prevents movement of a peripheral unclamped portion of the diaphragm between the clamped periphery and the portions of the diaphragm which move as the arrow is released.

A mitt for keeping a hand of a fisher warm while fishing with a rod and spinning reel having a bale includes a shell and a slide fastener closure for the shell for selectively opening and cosing the shell. The shell, when closed by the closure, has a size and shape to encircle the hand. The shell includes openings for receiving (a) the rod so that opposite portions of the rod extend from opposite portions of the shell with a segment of the rod between the opposite portions being within the shell at a position to be gripped by the hand enclosed by the closed shell and (b) a strut connected to the segment and the reel so that the reel is outside of the closed shell. The shell includes a finger positioned and constructed to (a) receive and enclose a digit of the hand while the hand is enclosed by the closed shell at the position where the hand grips the rod segment and (b) enable the fisher's digit therein to manipulate the bale.

Mitt for spinning fishing reel

A door assembly for a high temperature oven is disclosed, including a door frame having a cavity which is at least in part wedge-shaped and having apertures through the frame with a resilient seal surrounding the aperture. A door is located within the cavity, and moves in a generally vertical direction from an open position wherein the door is out of contact with the resilient seal and is displaced from the area between the apertures to provide unimpeded passage therethrough, to a closed position wherein the wedge shape causes the door to firmly seal against the resilient seal so that the substantial escape of gases through the closed door does not occur.

Apparatus and process for firing ceramics

An oven system for the continuous firing of bindered ceramic materials includes a conveyer, a burnout section, and an oven section. The burnout section burns binder out of the ceramic materials without substantial firing of the ceramic materials. The oven section fires the ceramic materials at a temperature of 800.degree. C. to 1600.degree. C. in an oxygen atmosphere. The oxygen in the oven is at a pressure of at least one-half atmosphere, so that the ceramic products are at least substantially in the oxide form and have a density of at least 98% of the theoretical density. The oven has a wedge shaped door which interacts with a wedge shaped cavity to seal the door.

A fishing mitt for covering a user's hand and a portion of the fishing rod mounted on the fishing rod is disclosed, wherein the fishing mitt fastens around the wrist or forearm of the user. The rod protrudes from the front of the mitt, and an aperture is provided through which line passes from the fishing reel to the rod guides. The aperture is maintained in relatively fixed positions with respect to the fishing rod, in order to minimize the frictional resistance imparted by the aperture to line passing therethrough during casting or line retrieval operations. The reel handles protrude through the side of the mitt, and can be operated by the hand of the user opposite from the hand inside of the mitt.

A method of joining two manganese zinc ferrite pole pieces, to form a product suitable for use in radio frequency recording apparatus, and especially for multi-core magnetic heads, is disclosed. Chromium layers are formed on each manganese zinc ferrite pole piece, on opposed faces thereof, and then the chromium layers are bonded together by means of a suitable adhesive, such as a high strength epoxy adhesive.

Method of joining manganese zinc ferrite pole pieces

An assembly including a ceramic insert and a surrounding dielectric filler in a ferrite or garnet toroid is disclosed, wherein a void is provided into which the dielectric filler can expand, such as by the formation of a temporary layer of liner material on an outer surface of the ceramic insert, or on the liner surface of the toroid, or on both. The ceramic insert is inserted into the toroid, and then the void between the ceramic insert and the toroid is filled with a dielectric heat-curable composition. Then the filled assembly is heated to an elevated temperature to burn out said liner. The liner material burns at a temperature of about 100.degree. F to a temperature which is at least 20.degree. F below the curing temperature of the dielectric heat-curable composition, and preferably the liner burns at a temperature below about 300.degree. F, to leave essentially no ash adversely affecting the resulting assembly. The dielectric composition is then cured, and the space left in the assembly by burning out the liner permits relative expansion and/or contraction of the insert, the toroid and the filler so the residual stresses in the final assembly are low. The assembly of the present invention is highly suitable for use in the production of phase shifters having a toroidal arrangement, where it is desired to eliminate any air gaps between the toroid and the ceramic insert, while avoiding or minimizing residual stresses in the final toroid assembly.

A method of minimizing or eliminating reactions between a surface of manganese zinc ferrite and a glass bonding composition applied thereto is disclosed, wherein a barrier layer is formed upon the manganese zinc ferrite surface prior to the application of the glass bonding composition. The barrier layer is a chromium layer about 3 - 170 microinches thick. The resulting product is suitable for use in radio frequency recording apparatus, and especially for multi-core magnetic heads.

A method of making a multi-core magnetic head in which two blocks of magnetic, ceramic material, configured to the desired pole piece shape, are joined with the two surfaces defining the gap being glass bonded, and the block cut to form individual pieces which are then glass bonded in grooves in the bottom of a U-shaped non-magnetic holder so that the pieces extend upward into the region bounded by the holder sides. The region is then potted and a carbon fixture placed over the ends of the upwardly extending pieces to provide additional mechanical strength. The potted assembly is then cut to leave upwardly extending pole legs.
