Various technologies pertaining to causing fluid in a supercritical Brayton cycle power generation system to flow in a desired direction at cold startup of the system are described herein. A sensor is positioned at an inlet of a turbine, wherein the sensor is configured to output sensed temperatures of fluid at the inlet of the turbine. If the sensed temperature surpasses a predefined threshold, at least one operating parameter of the power generation system is altered.

Preheating of fluid in a supercritical Brayton cycle power generation system at cold startup

An electrical control system having a direct current to direct current regulator receiving a direct current supply input, wherein the regulator outputs a controlled voltage direct current inverter power feed. Included is an inverter in electrical communication with the regulator and receives the controlled voltage direct current inverter power feed, the inverter outputs an alternating current motor power feed to a permanent magnet brushless direct current motor that outputs a shaft rotational speed and a back electromotive force. Also, a control is provided for regulating the controlled voltage direct current inverter power feed based upon criteria utilizing the back electromotive force or an auxiliary motor stator wire loop signal in conjunction with an optional voltage look-up table to substantially make the controlled voltage result in a reduction of a pulse width modulation switching frequency to further smooth and reduce harmonic of the alternating current waveform to increase motor efficiency.

Thermodynamic cycle with compressor recuperation, and associated systems and methods

A seal assembly for sealing a machine with a first chamber and a second chamber is provided. A rotating shaft extends through the first and second chambers, and rotates therein. The seal assembly has a seal housing, a seal ring and a seal pin. The seal housing is positionable in the machine housing. The seal housing has a seal pocket extending into a fluid side thereof, and a housing receptacle extending into an inner diameter thereof at the seal pocket. The seal ring is positionable in the seal pocket of the seal housing for forming a seal therewith. The seal ring has a ring receptacle extending into an outer diameter thereof. The ring receptacle is positionable adjacent to the housing receptacle for defining a pin hole therebetween. The seal pin is loosely positionable in the pin hole whereby movement about the seal ring is accommodated while preventing rotation thereof.

Seal assembly with anti-rotation pin for high pressure supercritical fluids

Techniques for generating power are provided. Such techniques involve a thermodynamic system including a housing, a turbine positioned in a turbine cavity of the housing, a compressor positioned in a compressor cavity of the housing, and an alternator positioned in a rotor cavity between the turbine and compressor cavities. The compressor has a high-pressure face facing an inlet of the compressor cavity and a low-pressure face on an opposite side thereof. The alternator has a rotor shaft operatively connected to the turbine and compressor, and is supported in the housing by bearings. Ridges extending from the low-pressure face of the compressor may be provided for balancing thrust across the compressor. Seals may be positioned about the alternator for selectively leaking fluid into the rotor cavity to reduce the temperature therein.

Apparatus for resurfacing vehicle brake discs by machining opposite sides of the brake disc by a pair of tools and in which the tools can be moved by a lead screw and including a motor which is coupled to the lead screw by a belt for driving it and including means for decoupling the motor to the lead screw including means for loosening the belt so it will not drive the lead screw.

Belt drive for machine for resurfacing vehicle brake discs

A fixture and method for simultaneously resurfacing opposite sides of a vehicle disc brake without removing the disc from the vehicle. The wheel of the vehicle and the hydraulic caliper for the disc are removed and the disc is then rotatably driven while opposite sides of the disc are resurfaced. A resurfacing tool fixture is removably mounted directly on the vehicle, for instance on the caliper mount bracket adjacent the disc, and the fixture has a shiftable frame having a pair of opposed carbide tipped tools which engage opposite sides of the disc and which are moved across the entire surface of the disc for complete resurfacing thereof, all without removing the disc from the mounting in the vehicle.

Fixture for resurfacing vehicle brake discs

A fixture for simultaneously resurfacing opposite sides of a vehicle disc brake without removing the disc from the vehicle. The wheel of the vehicle and the hydraulic caliper for the disc are removed and the disc is then rotatably driven while opposite sides of the disc are resurfaced. A resurfacing tool fixture is removably mounted directly on the vehicle, for instance on the caliper mount bracket adjacent the disc and the fixture has a swingable frame that defines a slot and through which the disc rotatably extends. The swingable frame has a pair of opposed carbide tipped tools which engage opposite sides of the disc and which are swung across the entire surface of the disc for complete resurfacing thereof, all without removing the disc from the mounting in the vehicle.
