A resistant heated flash evaporator including a body of any desired geometry having two opposite open sides, a cavity which forms a continuous open area extending from each of the two opposite sides and at least one metal evaporating surface facing the open area for evaporating metal laterally through the opposite sides of the cavity. The body is preferably composed of graphite and has a coating of pyrolyric boron nitride extending over a substantial portion of the body and over the metal evaporating surface formed by the cavity.

A pyrolytic boron nitride boat having a cavity suitable for use in growing and doping semi-conductor crystals such as gallium arsenide and said cavity having a roughened surface formed of substantially uniform projected no nodules, disturbances, or ridges.

Boron nitride boat and process for producing it

A boron nitride crucible having a closed end, an open end, an internal surface and an external surface, and wherein at least a portion of the external surface, preferably proximate the open end of the crucible, has a duplex coating comprising an undercoat of pyrolytic graphite and a top coat of pyrolytic boron nitride. A process for making the boron nitride crucible is also disclosed.
