The invention provides means for achieving improved adherence between the terminal closure portion of a cathode ray tube and its associated base member. The improvement relates to the forming of a circular array of discretely fashioned spatially related indents or pocket-like reservoirs in the flange portion of the base member. These indents accommodate the advantageous deposition of additional dielectric adhesive in the peripheral region of the flange to realize the desired tube-to-base adherence.

Cathode ray tube base

A device and method for measuring the reflectivity of the tungsten oxide surface coating on cathode ray tube heaters are described, in which selected small areas of an illuminated heater wire turns are scanned by a microscope, and the collected reflected light converted to voltage values by a photomultiplier tube and compared to a standard value.

Surface reflectivity device and method

A cathode ray tube has discrete x-ray absorbing means integrally associated with the face region thereof to beneficially attenuate the x-radiation emanating peripherally and forwardly therefrom. Attached to the tube face is a closed frame-like resilient gasket impregnated with x-ray absorbing material. Superposed thereon is a cover plate of x-ray absorbing glass. This is adhered to the tube face by a layer of substantially transparent adhesive confined within the gasket.

CRT Incorporating x-ray absorbing means

An improved process is provided for forming at least one set of elements of a patterned CRT screen disposed in overlay relationship upon an opaquely defined windowed-webbing priorly applied to the interior surface of the tube viewing panel in accordance with an apertured mask. The invention concerns the placement of a reflective medium over the exterior surface of the panel during screen exposure. By this means the exposure radiation traversing the screen and panel is reflected back through the respective windows in the screen structure to augment the polymerization and adherence of the pattern elements.
