A wet-dry vacuum cleaner with both a tool caddy and a waste receptacle basket is disclosed which has a mechanism by which the basket can be securely and positively connected to the tool caddy. One of the tool caddy and basket may include a deflectable tab while the other of the tool caddy and basket may include a slot adapted to receive the tab. Upon connecting the basket onto the tool caddy the tab may be inserted into the slot to thus positively connect the basket to the tool caddy and thereby provide a secure attachment.

A switch assembly for a wet/dry vacuum cleaner is disclosed. The switch assembly includes a switch having a movable arm to connect first and second conductive terminals with a rocker arm pivotally attached to the switch. The rocker arm is operable by an actuator button and a de-actuator button which are user engageable. Depending upon which of the de-actuator and actuator buttons are depressed, the rocker arm assumes a given position relative to the switch, which in turn results in an on or off position for the switch. An automatic shut-off assembly is operable in conjunction with the switch assembly to turn the switch to an off position in the event that the level of liquid within the tank rises beyond an acceptable level. The switch assembly enables the operator to manually override the automatic shut-off assembly.

A fitting for a vacuum cleaner is disclosed. The fitting includes a retainer having first and second grooves within which a fitting is adapted to slide. The fitting includes a plate from which a cylinder extends and terminates in a radially inwardly directed deflector. Depending upon the orientation of the fitting within the retainer, the incoming fluid stream is directed in an upward or downward direction to thereby facilitate usage of the fitting with or without a vacuum bag, while at the same time minimizing the potential for splashing and expulsion of liquid drawn into the vacuum cleaner.

A mounting means secures a floor nozzle to the front of a wheeled dolly base which supports a vacuum cleaner that is connected to the outlet of the nozzle by a flexible hose. The mounting means includes a plate having struts extending therefrom to opposite ends of the nozzle. A rearward extension of the nozzle, disposed midway between the nozzle ends, is connected directly to the plate by a manually operable height adjusting means. An upwardly offset rearward facing ear on the plate is received by a slot that is centered at the front of the dolly base. Two of the swivel-type wheel units that support the base are each provided with a vertical pivot shaft that extends upwardly into and is frictionally held in a wheel well on the base. Before entering the wheel wells, the pivot shafts pass through apertures in the plate thereby fixing the nozzle against all forces in a horizontal plane.
