A method and system are provided for aligning fibers in an electrospinning process. A jet of a fiberizable material is directed towards an uncharged collector from a dispensing location that is spaced apart from the collector. While the fiberizable material is directed towards the collector, an elliptical electric field is generated via the electrically charged dispenser and an oppositely-charged control location. The field spans between the dispensing location and the control location that is within line-of-sight of the dispensing location, and impinges upon at least a portion of the collector. Various combinations of numbers and geometries of dispensers, collectors, and electrodes can be used.

Method and system for aligning fibers during electrospinning

A cantilever array can be positioned adjacent a surface in the presence of a sample. The cantilever array includes a plurality of cantilevers having one member of a specific binding pair thereon. The surface includes the other member of a specific binding pair. Binding between the members of the binding pair on the cantilevers and the surface can be detected. The presence, absence and/or concentration of a member of the specific binding pair in the sample can be detected based on the detected binding between the specific binding pair member on the cantilevers and the specific binding pair member on the surface.

Feedback acoustic energy dissipating device with compensator

A compact full-range loudspeaker system includes an elongated enclosure having two open ends joined by a hollow interior, which enclosure may be of fixed dimension or telescoping, and has a full-range speaker mounted at each end of the cylindrical enclosure. The enclosure length is set in a range governed by the small speaker size to maximize the system response, particularly in the lower frequency range, and a dampening material is provided to construct the enclosure to minimize the structural acoustic response of the enclosure when being driven. A pair of miniature sound boards may be flat, polymer surfaces mounted to a base and positioned at each end of the cylindrical enclosure at an angle facing each speaker for reflecting sound waves emanating from the speaker in accordance with the positioning of the cylindrical enclosure to create an effective sound stage and control directionality.

Compact full-range loudspeaker system

An adaptive algorithm implemented in digital or analog form is used in conjunction with a voltage controlled amplifier to compensate for the feedthrough capacitance of piezoelectric sensoriactuator. The mechanical response of the piezoelectric sensoriactuator is resolved from the electrical response by adaptively altering the gain imposed on the electrical circuit used for compensation. For wideband, stochastic input disturbances, the feedthrough capacitance of the sensoriactuator can be identified on-line, providing a means of implementing direct-rate-feedback control in analog hardware. The device is capable of on-line system health monitoring since a quasi-stable dynamic capacitance is indicative of sustained health of the piezoelectric element.
