An electric brake comprises an actuator module including a module housing, a reciprocating ram, and an electric motor operatively connected to the reciprocating ram for selectively extending and retracting the reciprocating ram with respect to the module housing. The ram has an inner portion of non-circular cross-section and an outer portion of circular cross-sectional, and the housing has a guideway for the ram, which guideway has an inner portion of non-circular cross-section for interacting with the inner portion of the ram to prevent rotation of the inner portion of the ram, and an outer portion of circular cross-sectional. The actuator module can be equipped with a bi-stable holding brake having a first state permitting at least retraction of the ram and a second state preventing at least retraction of the ram.

Electric brake for aircraft

An electrically actuated aircraft brake and method characterized by the use actuator modules which can be easily and quickly replaced as a unit. Quick and easy replacement of the actuator modules can be effected without disassembly of the overall brake and wheel assembly. Accordingly, brake manufacturing, repair costs, overhaul, parts stocking and maintenance costs and requirements are minimized and/or greatly simplified compared to integrated brake designs used in the prior art. Also, a malfunctioning actuator module on an aircraft can be replaced and preferably quickly enough to allow the aircraft to remain in scheduled service and/or with a minimum of downtime.

Aircraft brake and method with electromechanical actuator modules

An electromechanical braking system utilizes redundancy features to provide safe and reliable braking. The braking system is configured to operate on power provided by multiple power sources. Different modes of braking are available based on whether a failure has occurred in one or more power sources. Additionally, system redundancy allows for failure in one or more primary components without total loss of braking capacity. Proportional braking is provided even in an emergency braking mode.

Electromechanical braking system with power distribution and redundancy

A method is provided for arranging the components and power connection points within an electromechanical braking system architecture in order to better maintain isolation of the power busses, and thereby improve overall integrity of the system, while still meeting system redundancy, performance and safety requirements as in the past. An aircraft wheel for a pneumatic tire that has a generally cylindrical wheel section with an annular inboard rim flange and an annular outboard rim flange which seat the respective beads of the tire, The respective rim flanges have curvilinear configurations that extend radially outwardly from each other with the curvilinear portion of the inboard rim flange having a radius of curvature that is based on a single radius of curvature while the curvilinear portion of the outboard rim flange has a compound radius defining an outboard rim flange that has a greater radial dimension than the inboard rim flange.

Aircraft wheel

A brake and wheel assembly wherein the available piston stroke for a given envelope can be significantly increased to provide greater brake life between overhauls. The wheel and brake assembly is characterized by a fluid actuated back leg structure which allows a disk pack to be compressed and adjusted not only from its brake head side as is conventional but also from its wheel side. As the brake wears, the back leg structure draws the wheel side of the disk pack toward the brake head while the brake actuator piston or pistons push the disk pack in the wheel direction.
