A method for the production of joints between ceramic bodies such as silicon carbide bodies in which a preceramic polymer mixed with a powder, such as bimodal silicon carbide, is applied in slurry form. The mechanical and hermetic properties may be enhanced by the inclusion of additional bodies constraining the polymer slurry in the joint region, such as a collar. The thermal processing of the joint is described which provides a useful joint.

Ceramic joining

A circuit used in a traffic control apparatus for detecting changes in the frequency of an oscillator which has an inductive loop-sensor as a resonating element. The circuit comprises a phase-locked loop oscillator with restricted tuning range and a high impedance amplifier followed by threshold detectors adjusted to sense the entry and exit of a vehicle over the area covered by the loop-sensor. The high-resolution of the circuit overcomes long-term drift problems inherent to loop-sensor detectors with analog circuitry.

Loop detector for traffic signal control

A device for measuring distances to a target includes electronic circuits for generating a light which is amplitude modulated by three selectable frequencies. Also included are optics for focusing the amplitude modulated light onto the target, and for receiving reflection of the light therefrom. Additional circuits convert the received light to electrical signals representative thereof, and compute the phase angles between these signals and the amplitude modulating signals. The distance to the target is then calculated based on these phase angles and the wavelength of frequencies equal to the differences between the three selectable frequencies. Another circuit uses an accelerometer to measure vertical angle to the target, and further distance measurements are made based thereon. Still other circuits compensate for a variety of potential error causing conditions, such as signal waveform asymmetry and component tolerance. A subassembly of the device is mountable on a theodolite telescope and utilizes folded optics in order to be plungeable.

Electro-optic distance measuring device

An amplitude modulator circuit that generates from digital values stored in a read only memory, envelope amplitude samples that are digitized in the ROM and are incremented out by an incrementing address counter that is clocked at a given clock rate to a digital to analog converter. The shape of the waveform envelope may be changed by selectively changing the clock rate. The modulator also has envelope correction means, wherein the amplified RF pulse envelope that may be distorted, is detected and fed back through an operational amplifier for changing the analog waveform shape modulated onto the RF signal.

Method and apparatus for digitally controlling an amplitude modulated

A precision radio ranging system that uses primarily a single carrier frequency interrogating and responding signal that is pulse amplitude modulated to provide phase shift information. A mobile interrogator finds its position by measuring ranges to each of two fixed responders. During a measurement, the interrogator has sole usage of the responder and transmits a pulse of a single frequency RF carrier. The responder measures the received carrier phase and later transmits a reply pulse on the same single frequency RF carrier which replicates this phase. The interrogator determines range to the responder from the phase difference of its own interrogation pulse and the responder reply pulse. In multiple system use, two closely spaced carrier frequencies may be time sequenced to provide multiparty two range service.
