A novel adhesive that finds use in a cold corrugating system has a 5 second tack at a temperature of 160&#xb0; F. of at least 50&#xb1;2 grams.

Corrugating adhesive and use thereof

The present invention is directed toward a free flowing powdered blend of a polysaccharide and a crystalline polyol for use as an edible adhesive for particulate materials such as seasonings and flavorings. The powdered adhesive blend can easily be mixed with seasonings or flavorings and will melt during a heating process to a sticky viscose liquid capable of adhering seasoning particles to the food substrate. The blends of the present invention have the benefits of being easy to prepare, use and store as they will stay a free flowing powder under most ambient conditions.

The instant invention is directed to a food grade, hot-melt adhesive which may be prepared by blending and melting a starch with a plasticizer and optionally adding a moisture resistant agent. Upon cooling, the solid mass can be aground into a free-flowing powder. The hot melt composition may then be used to apply any of a variety of particulate additives, such as flavoring and coloring agents, to food stuffs by the application of low heat.

A paper sizing and coating composition suitable for use in food packaging that is effective over a range of atmospheric conditions. The composition includes a starch and a water-soluble protein having a bloom strength of at least about 150. The composition can be applied over a paper substrate to improved oil and grease resistance.

Latex paint compositions containing water, pigment and a latex wherein the latex is prepared by emulsion polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of 0.1 to 0.2 pphm of at least one hydrophobically modified starch having the structure ##STR1## In the above structure, St is a starch base material, R.sup.1 is a dimethylene or trimethylene group, R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl and aralkenyl groups having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and Y is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal and ammonium. The hydrophobically modified starch is the reaction product of starch and an anhydride moiety and provides the latex paint with improved rheological properties and allows for easier spreading and less dripping of paint.
