Apparatus and methods are provided for converting methane in a feed stream to acetylene. A hydrocarbon stream is introduced into a supersonic reactor and pyrolyzed to convert at least a portion of the methane to acetylene. The reactor effluent stream may be treated to convert acetylene to another hydrocarbon process.

Methane conversion apparatus and process using a supersonic flow reactor

A process for removing at least one product from coal tar is described. The process involves extraction with an extraction agent or adsorption with an adsorbent. The extraction agent includes at least one of amphiphilic block copolymers, cyclodextrins, functionalized cyclodextrins, and cyclodextrin-functionalized polymers, and the adsorbent includes exfoliated graphite oxide, thermally exfoliated graphite oxide or intercalated graphite compounds.

Process for removing a product from coal tar

A process for purifying at least one product from coal tar is described. The process involves separating a coal tar fraction having a boiling point in the range of about 180&#xb0; C. to about 230&#xb0; C. into an acidic portion and a non-acidic portion by contacting the fraction with a caustic compound. The acidic portion is separated into a cresol portion and a xylenol portion, and the non-acidic portion is separated into a naphthalene portion and a naphthalene co-boiler portion. The acidic portion and the non-acidic portions are separated by contacting with an adsorbent comprising small, discrete crystallites, the adsorbent having less than 10 wt % amorphous binder component. The various portions can be separated in a similar manner.

Process for purifying products from coal tar

The present invention utilizes a combination of a porous carrier and an adsorbent such as a molecular sieve to make a more effective hemostatic device to treat wounds in mammalian animals. These hemostatic devices contain additives that do not inhibit hemostasis.

Adsorbent-containing hemostatic devices

The present invention utilizes a nano-coating of an oxide such as silica, a silicate or another effective oxide on a surface to accelerate blood clotting in mammalian animals. The hemostatic layer has a thickness that is effective for the hemostasis, yet can be made thin enough to result in a resorbable film which can either be applied to a biocompatible or resorbable device that can be used in surgical applications as well as in topical applications such as trauma.

A rapid cycle, gas permeable, adsorbent-containing ('RCA') paper suitable for separating at least a portion of a first gas from a second gas in a gas mixture to produce a product stream enriched in the first gas. The RCA paper contains p-aramid fibrids and zeolite.

An adsorbent media composition has a finished media lithium-exchanged zeolite X (LiX) with a finished Li content in a range from 96% to 83%, based on the total cation equivalents in the LiX. The adsorbent media composition is obtained from a slurry comprising water, a LiX precursor having a pre-media production Li content that is greater than the finished media LiX Li content, and another media component material, such as fibers. The water used to produced the media has a specific conductance in a range from 2.2 &#x3bc;Siemens/cm to 150 &#x3bc;Siemens/cm. The finished media LiX has a monovalent cation (Na, K, Rb, Cs and combinations thereof) in a range from 0.05% to 3%, based on the total equivalents of exchangeable cations in the finished media LiX.

A dielectric ceramic article precursor and a process for preparing a dielectric ceramic article are presented. The ceramic article precursor comprises a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite or an amorphous aluminosilicate, a zinc oxide additive and a glass phase. The ceramic article precursor can optionally contain at least one forming aid selected from binders, plasticizers and surfactants. The process for preparing a dielectric ceramic article involves forming a mixture from the above components into a shaped article such as a tape and then calcining the shaped article at a temperature of about 700&#xb0; C. to about 1000&#xb0; C. for a time of about 0.5 to about 24 hours.

A dielectric ceramic article precursor and a process for preparing a dielectric ceramic article are presented. The ceramic article precursor comprises a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite or an amorphous aluminosilicate and a glass phase. The ceramic article precursor can optionally contain at least one forming aid selected from binders, plasticizers and surfactants. Metal oxide additives such as B O or SnO as well as metal oxide precursor additives such as nitrates or carbonates of metals such as boron or tin can also be included in the ceramic article precursor. The process for preparing a dielectric ceramic article involves forming a mixture from the above components into a shaped article such as a tape and then calcining the shaped article at a temperature of about 700&deg; C. to about 1000&deg; C. for a time of about 0.5 to about 24 hours.
