A composition comprises a physical mixture of (i) and oxide of molybdenum and/or tungsten supported by a silica-containing material and (ii) a pillared interlayered clay. This composition is used as catalyst in the conversion of C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 monoolefins to C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 hydrocarbons.

Oligomerization of olefins

Catalyst composition comprising chemically bound copper, phosphorus and oxygen used for oligomerizing olefins to C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 hydrocarbons. The preferred catalyst composition comprises a mixture of copper(II) orthophosphate, zirconium orthophosphate and aluminum orthophosphate, preferably formed by coprecipitation.

Olefin disproportionation catalyst

A process for oligomerizing olefins to C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 hydrocarbons comprises contacting, under suitable reaction conditions, at least one olefin having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms per molecule, free hydrogen and a catalyst composition comprising chemically bound copper, phosphorus and oxygen. Preferably, the olefin is propylene or 1-butene. The preferred catalyst composition comprises a mixture of copper(II) orthophosphate, zirconium orthophosphate and aluminum orthophosphate, preferably formed by coprecipitation.

Olefins are converted into other olefins having different numbers of carbon atoms by contact with a catalyst comprising a silica support containing tungsten oxide and a promoting amount of at least one titaniferous agent and activated under conditions suitable for the titaniferous agent to promote the activity of tungsten oxide and silica for the disproportionation and isomerization reaction.

Olefin conversion

Process for activation of tungsten on silica disproportionation catalyst by contacting the catalyst with at least one acetylenic compound is disclosed. In a specific embodiment, the acetylenic compound can be prepared by isomerization of an allene compound when contacted with magnesium oxide, either as a separate catalyst bed, or as part of the disproportionation catalyst system.

An improved olefin disproportionation catalyst produced by contacting an inorganic refractory oxide containing a catalytic amount of molybdenum oxide with a promoting amount of at least one elemental metal selected from the group consisting of barium and magnesium.

Olefin disproportionation and catalyst therefor

Olefins are converted into other olefins having different numbers of carbon atoms by contact with a catalyst comprising an inorganic refractory material containing at least one of tungsten oxide and molybdenum oxide and a promoting amount of at least one treating agent selected from chlorinated silicon compounds, thionyl chloride, and sulfuryl chloride under conditions suitable for the treating agent to promote the activity of tungsten and molybdenum oxides for the disproportionation reaction.

An improved olefin disproportionation catalyst produced by contacting an inorganic refractory oxide containing a catalytic amount of tungsten oxide or molybdenum oxide with a promoting amount of at least one elemental metal selected from zinc and manganese.

A supported tungsten oxide or supported molybdenum oxide is treated with elemental tungsten, silicon or antimony. The composition is useful as a metathesis catalyst.
