A selective call receiver (110) and a receptacle (150) has in combination (100) a breakaway lock (120, 154), a non-breakaway hinge (124, 126), a track (116) and a slidably coupling having the breakaway lock (120, 154) and the non-breakaway hinge (124, 126) coupled with the track (116) for removing and replacing the selective call receiver (110). The breakaway lock (120, 154) has a tab (154) and a groove (120) for disengaging the selective call receiver (110) from the receptacle (150) at the breakaway lock (120, 154). The non-breakaway hinge (124, 126) forms a rotatable coupling for pivoting the selective call receiver (110). The non-breakaway hinge (124, 126) has a rail (126) and a geometric groove (124) terminating the track (116). The rail (126) and the geometric groove (124) allow the selective call receiver (110) to pivoted when the breakaway lock (120, 154) is disengaged while securing the selective call receiver (110) within the receptacle (150) when the selective call receiver (110) is pivoted and releasing it to be slidably removed when the breakaway lock (120, 154) is engaged.

A pivotable display arrangement for an electronic device (600) powered by a battery (116) includes an enclosure (102, 104) having sides formed to provide an arcuate rectangular aperture (602) spanning across a portion of the top and front of file enclosure (102, 104). A pivotable display positioned within the aperture 602 includes a display element (112) attached to a display housing (110) formed in a cylindrical shape such that an interior portion provides a battery compartment (109). First and second bearings (1102) are formed in the enclosure (102, 104) at opposing sides of the aperture 602 for capturing first and second ends (1104) of the display housing (110), thereby allowing rotation of the display housing (110) about a central axis (111) through the first and second bearings (1102).

A loop antenna (10) for use in a wrist band radio (50) comprises a series of interconnected links (2 and 4) forming a wristband, a flexible conductor (30) retained between the interconnected links forming the loop antenna, and a connector at the end portions of the series of links for electronically coupling the flexible conductor to the radio.

An apparatus (20) comprises a radio receiver disposed in a housing (22) having two opposed ends, a wrist band (24) having a conductor (40) throughout the length of the wrist band from a first end (26) to a second end (28), and a connector (32, 34, and 36) within the opposed ends of the radio receiver housing and within the first end and second end of the wrist band for detachably coupling the wrist band to the radio receiver housing forming a loop antenna.

A reactance buffer maintains a substantially constant reasonant frequency for an adjustable size loop antenna having first and second antenna segments. Each segment has first and second ends, the first ends being coupled to a receiver, and the second ends providing loop size adjustment. The reactance buffer comprises a reactance buffer input coupled to the second end of the first antenna segment. A plurality of taps are linearly disposed along a longitudinal axis of the first wristband section, and has a predetermined length between the outermost taps corresponding to the loop antenna size adjustment required. The taps provide selectable reactance buffer outputs for coupling to the second end of the second antenna segment. A plurality of reactance elements are arranged non-serially and couple the reactance buffer input to each of the plurality of taps and provide a substantially constant reactance measured between the reactance buffer input and each of the plurality of taps.
