The present invention relates to the use of an additive as well as a process to improve the adhesion of a mortar to a building substrate, wherein the mortar is mixed with said additive and is applied to a building substrate selected from the group of polystyrene-containing substrates, polyolefin-containing substrates or polyvinyl chloride-containing substrates, the additive containing (i) a plasticizer that is liquid at 50&#xb0; C. or lower, has a boiling point of 100&#xb0; C. or higher, and that has a solubility parameter &#x3b4; 25&#xb0; C. between 22.5 MPaand MPa; (ii) optionally, a filler that has a BET surface area of at least 40 m/g; (iii) optionally, a biopolymer, (iv) optionally, a protective colloid; and (v) optionally, a water-insoluble film-forming (co)polymer based on ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The invention also covers an additive and a kit of parts suitable for use in the above process.

Process and additive to improve adhesion of building compositions to substrates

The present invention provides a process to prepare a powdery additive suitable for improving adhesion of building material compositions to substrates having a surface energy of 50 mJ/mor lower, measured according to DIN 5660-2:2011-12, the additive comprising a polysaccharide and a plasticizer, wherein the plasticizer is liquid at 50&#xb0; C. or lower, has a boiling point of 100&#xb0; C. or higher and is selected from a specific group, comprising the steps of a) admixing the plasticizer to an aqueous medium of the polysaccharide followed by the subsequent drying of the admixture, or b) preparing a first particle comprising the plasticizer by (i) adsorbing the plasticizer onto a carrier, or by emulsifying the plasticizer with a synthetic water-soluble polymer in water and subsequently drying the emulsion, and (ii) mixing this first particle with a second particle comprising the polysaccharide wherein the mean particle size of the coarser of the first and second particle is not more than 10 times the mean particle size of the finer particle, or agglomerating the first and second particles into one particle. The invention further provides the additive obtainable by this process, use of the additive and building material compositions containing the additive as well as a process to adhere such compositions to substrates having a surface energy of 50 mJ/mor lower.

Process and additive to improve adhesion of compositions to substrates

The present invention provides a process to hydrophobize a mortar which is essentially free of cement, comprising the steps of mixing the mortar with an additive and water and subsequently allowing the mortar to cure, wherein the additive contains a component which is a rosin, a rosin derivative, a mixture of a resin with a rosin, or a mixture of a resin with a rosin derivative, wherein when the softening point of the component is higher than 60&#xb0; C., the curing step is performed at a temperature that is not lower than the softening point of the component minus 20&#xb0; C. and when the softening point of the component is 60&#xb0; C. or lower, the curing step is performed at 40&#xb0; C. or lower, and wherein the rosin and/or rosin derivative have an acid number of at least 50 mg KOH/g, and when the component is a mixture of a resin with a rosin, or a mixture of a resin with a rosin derivative, the resin at 23&#xb0; C. and pH 7 has a water solubility of about 5 g/l or less and a Brookfield viscosity of less than 20,000 mPas, measured at 23&#xb0; C. and 20 rpm. The invention also covers an additive as well as a pasty and a dry mortar composition.

Process to hydrophobize cement-free mortars

The present invention pertains to a water-redispersible polymer powder based on at least one modified natural latex. The modified natural latex can be obtained by mixing natural latex with at least one radical initiator and/or oxidizing agent, by mixing and reacting natural latex with at least one olefinically unsaturated monomer and with at least one radical initiator, and/or by mixing natural latex with at least one filler. Preferably, the polymer powder contains up to about 95 wt. % of least one natural latex, about 0 to 50 wt. % of at least one protective colloid, about 2 to 70 wt. % of at least one filler and/or anti-caking agent, as well as optionally further additives. In addition, the invention pertains to a process for the preparation of the polymer powder, the use thereof as an additive in building material compositions, as well as building material compositions containing the polymer powder.

Redispersible polymer powder

The invention relates to an additive for hydraulically setting systems based on modified polycarboxylates and water-soluble ethers of high polymeric polysaccharides, optionally containing further standard additives, characterized by a content of a) a water-soluble ether of cellulose or a cellulose-like compound with a viscosity of at least approximately 1,000 mPas, particularly at least approximately 2,000 mPas, measured as a 2% aqueous solution with a Brookfield viscosimeter at 20&#xb0; C. and 20 rpm and b) a polycarboxylate, whose main chain is linked by means of ester, ether, imide and/or amide groups with polyethylene oxide-containing side chains. The invention also relates to hydraulic mixtures having a content of the above additive and the use thereof. Using the additive according to the invention in hydraulically setting systems comparable and in part much better characteristics are obtained compared with casein-containing formulations, such as a rheological flow behaviour comparable to casein, but with improved water retention.

The invention relates to a redispersible powder obtainable by (co)polymerization, using a polymer with cationic functionality in an aqueous medium, optionally accompanied by the use of conventional additives, the polymer with cationic functionality being obtained by (co)polymerization in an aqueous medium of olefinically unsaturated (co)monomers, wherein at least one (co)monomer has a cationic functionality, further (co)monomers are added and polymerization takes place in the presence of suitable initiators, and by drying the aqueous dispersion obtained, the (co)polymerizate having one or more reactive groups. According to another embodiment, the polymer with cationic functionality is formed in situ in the presence of a seed. According to another embodiment, the process is controlled in such a way that a (co)polymerizate particle with heterogeneous morphology is formed. The invention also relates to the aqueous dispersions, a process for the preparation of the redispersible powder and the use thereof.

Redispersible powder and its aqueous dispersion, preparation, process and use

Hydraulic fixing agent that is based on Portland cement, a sulphate and aluminum component that is usual in this system, and optionally other additives. This is characterized in that, according to DIN 18156 (Part 2, Sec. 5.2.2.2, 5.2.2.3a) and 5.2.2.4), the hydraulic fixing agent has (1) an adhesive pull strength of at least approximately 0.15 N/mmwhen acted upon by water for 40 hours and (2) an adhesive pull strength of at most approximately 0.10 N/mmyy2 when acted upon by an aqueous sulphate solution and/or an aqueous solution of an aluminum salt, each of which has a pH value of 12.5, for a period of 40 hours.

Hydraulic fixing agent and method for reducing the cohesion of a layer of bonded fixing agent

The object of the invention is a redispersible material, particularly in powder form, which comprises a polymer containing silanol groups, the latter being provided with a protective group. The redispersible material can be in the form of a redispersible powder, an aqueous dispersion or an aqueous solution. The invention also makes available a process for the preparation of a redispersible material by reacting a silanol group-containing polymer with a compound having a protective function for the silanol groups, optionally with the subsequent recovery of a redispersible, pulverulent material from the polymer provided with the protective groups. The invention also relates to the use of the redispersible material in adhesives, plastic-containing, cement-bound systems, plastic-bound, cement-free binders, wallpaper pastes, disperse dyes, glass fibre composite systems, etc. The invention is characterized in that the silanol groups in a random polymer can be temporarily protected and consequently the reactivity of these groups cannot be blocked by undesired reactions. In addition, the latently present silanols can be released in planned manner in connection with the final applications.

Redispersible material, process for producing and using the same, and aqueous system containing this redispersible material

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of aqueous dispersions of latex particles having a heterogeneous morphology by a semicontinuous emulsion polymerization, comprising the emulsion polymerizing of ethylenically unsaturated (co)monomers, accompanied by, the addition of cationic and/or anionic and/or nonionic emulsifiers and/or protective colloids as stabilizers, which are directly used as such or synthesized in situ, the semicontinuous emulsion polymerization being performed in the presence of the stabilizer or stabilizers with a monomer mixture, which a) contains at least one nonionic, ethylenically unsaturated monomer with a glass transition temperature Tg above about 30&deg; C. in a quantity of about 10 to 70 wt. %, based on the total weight of ethylenically unsaturated (co)monomers and b) at least one hydrophilic, ethylenically unsaturated monomer in a quantity of about 5 to 30 wt. %, based on the total weight of ethylenically unsaturated (co)monomers.

PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF AQUEOUS DISPERSIONS OF LATEX PARTICLES HAVING A HETEROGENEOUS MORPHOLOGY, THE LATEX PARTICLES OBTAINABLE WITH THE PROCESS, THE DISPERSIONS AND REDISPERSIBLE POWDERS, AS WELL AS THE USE THEREOF

The invention relates to protective colloid-stabilized copolymerizate latex particles with a heterogeneous morphology based on a vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymerizate and optionally further monomers, the latex particles having an ethylene content of less than 30 wt. %, based oh the total monomer quantity, comprising an outer phase with a polymer of vinyl acetate and approximately 0 to 40 wt. % ethylene, based on the monomers of the outer phase, and an inner phase with a polymer of vinyl acetate and approximately 0 to 40 wt. % ethylene; based on the monomers of the inner phase and in which at least one of the two phases contains ethylene. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of acqueous dispersions of copolymerizate latex particles with heterogeneous morphology and the use thereof. The invention is characterized in that the heterogeneous morphology can be obtained in a planned manner, i.e. whether there is a core-shell or inverse core-shell morphology and the composition of the inner and the outer phases can also be varied in flexible manner within the indicated ranges.

Latex particles based on a vinyl acetate ethylene copolymerizate processes for the production thereof and the use thereof

Method for producing aqueous dispersions of (co)polymers, dispersions obtained using said method, redispersible powders which can be obtained from said dispersions and use thereof

The invention relates to a chemical composition containing a) a copolymer based on styrene and/or at least one alkyl (meth)acrylate, the quantity of styrene and/or alkyl (meth)acrylate being .gtoreq.50% by weight, based on the total monomers, and at least one further comonomer, and b) a water-soluble polymeric protective colloid, wherein about 2 to 30 parts per weight of the water-soluble polymeric protective colloid are allotted to 100 parts by weight of the copolymer, and c) optional further additives as required. The copolymer contains appoximately 0.1 to 50% by weight units of an epoxide-group-containing ethylenically unsaturated comonomer. Such units show reactive epoxide groups. The invention relates further to an aqueous polymer dispersion of said chemical composition, the production of same and a special method for obtaining the chemical composition from the polymer dispersion and special applications of the aqueous polymer dispersion and the chemical composition.
