Human sebum mimetics and methods for producing human sebum mimetics are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a human sebum mimetic comprises a wax ester derived from interesterification of a refined botanical triglyceride oil comprising palmitoleic acid and refined jojoba oil, a phytosterol, phytosqualene, and phytosteryl macadamiate. A method for producing a human sebum mimetic comprises mixing refined macadamia oil and refined jojoba oil, interesterifying the macadamia oil and the jojoba oil, adding a phytosterol, adding phytosteryl macadamiate, and adding phytosqualene after interesterification.

Human sebum mimetics derived from botanical sources and methods for making the same

Materials with high levels of unsaponifiable matter, such as extracts from plants, produce hydrolysates with unique properties. The application of a hydrolysis process to materials, particularly materials with a high level of unsaponifiables (e.g., at least 6 weight percent of the material), produces a product with properties significantly different from those products resulting from the conventional saponification of materials with less than 6 weight percent of unsaponifiables. The hydrolysates of the present invention are substantive, resisting both physical and aqueous-based removal from skin and hair, exhibit a unique surfactant property, and are not foaming agents with water. Hydrolysates according to the present invention may be used to enhance the performance of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. These hydrolysates can be bioactive agents and alternative natural carrying agents for topical application of materials, particularly for application of materials to the skin or hair, providing a substantive support for the materials carried.

High unsaponifiables and methods of using the same

Human sebum mimetics and methods for producing human sebum mimetics are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a human sebum mimetic comprises a wax ester derived from interesterification of refined botanical oil comprising palmitoleic acid and refined jojoba oil, a phytosterol, phytosqualene, and/or phytosteryl macadamiate. Method for producing a human sebum mimetic comprises mixing refined macadamia oil and refined jojoba oil, interesterifying the refined macadamia oil and the refined jojoba oil, adding a phytosterol, adding phytosteryl macadamiate, and adding phytosqualene after the interesterifying.

Cosmetic particle compositions are provided which are adapted to form hard cosmetic particles that transform to soft cosmetic particles after their incorporation into topical formulations, particularly surfactant-based topical formulations. The composition includes one or more partially or fully hydrogenated triglyceride oils, at least 50% of which have at least 15% by weight fatty acid moieties with carbon chain lengths of Cor higher. Additives may be disposed in or on the hard cosmetic particles and delivered when the cosmetic particles are broken proximate a target such as the skin, hair or nails of a mammalian subject or another target. The transformable hard cosmetic particles permit the storage and shipment of intact cosmetic particles yet transform in situ to achieve the benefits of soft cosmetic particles.

Cosmetic particles that transform from hard to soft particles comprising hydrogenated long-chain triglyceride oils

Compositions may include long-chain organic molecules obtained from natural oils, particularly plant, bean, seed and nut oils, and their derivatives can be provided with increased oxygen stability by their combination with mixtures of particular classes of antioxidants, particularly combinations of at least one synthetic free-radical terminating antioxidant. The stabilization combination is particularly effective in combination with long-chain oils having less than 5% methylene interrupted unsaturation and free-radical terminating antioxidants present in an amount of from 0.001 to 5% or more by weight of the long-chain oils. The long-chain oil may include a natural oil or wax, such as Macadamia oil and its derivatives, Moringa oil and its derivatives, Babassu oil and its derivatives, Meadowfoam oil and its derivatives, and High Oleic Sunflower oil.

Described is a method for improving the spreading properties of fatty alcohol containing cosmetic ingredients by providing a fatty alcohol containing starting material and adding an effective amount of acylating source [e.g., RC)&#x2550;O)OC(&#x2550;O)R, where Ris an alkyl substituent of the acyl group having between 1 and 5 carbons; where Ris a long chain fatty alkyl subsistent (non-limiting examples are unsaturated substituents such as CH&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;CH&#x2550;CH&#x2014;CH&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;, and saturated substituents such as CH&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;, wherein x ranges from 4 to 12, and y ranges from 14 to 22, and the like)], wherein the spreading properties of the starting material are increased over the spreading properties originally exhibited.

Method for improving spreading properties of cosmetic ingredients

Described is an alkoxylated composition that comprises a family of trans carbon-carbon double bond free compositions that generally have melting points that range from C., preferably with melting points between C. and with a solubility profile compatible with a broad range of cosmetic and industrial chemical bases. At room temperature (&tilde; C.), this family of compositions varies from pourable liquids, to soft creams, to pasty waxes, to a brittle hard material. These compounds, whether used pure or when combined with other carrier and vehicle components (including other additives, thickeners or binders) can form excellent carrier and vehicles for delivery of compositions for use in the cosmetic, personal care and/or pharmaceutical field, including the cosmeceutical field where cosmetic compositions also provide pharmaceutical or other therapeutic benefits.

Production and use of novel alkoxylated monoesters

Cosmetic compositions with enhanced slip and/or break strength are described, said compositions comprising ultra-stable moringa oils, or its derivatives. These compositions may be used in cosmetic applications such as creams, lotions, and liquid foundations; massage oils; pressed products, such as eye shadow, blush, and powder; molded products, such as lipstick, lip balm, foundation, blush, eye liner, eye shadow, mascara; and hair care products, such as leave in conditioners, relaxers, hair dyes and other applications. The oils derived from the moringa plant should have a percent methylene interrupted unsaturation of less than 1%. The compositions may have at least one supplemental additive, such as malic acid, kojic acid, or ascorbic acid, present in an amount of from 0.01 to 2% or more by weight of the composition and the tocopherol is present in an amount of from 0.01 to 5% by weight of the composition.

Ultra-stable composition comprising moringa oil and its derivatives and uses thereof

A composition is described that comprises moringa oils, or its derivatives, produced from the moringa plant in combination with an oxidation stabilizing system comprising at least one tocopherol. The oils derived from the moringa plant should have a percent methylene interrupted unsaturation of less than 1%. The composition may have at least one supplemental additive, such as malic acid, kojic acid, or ascorbic acid, present in an amount of from 0.01 to 2% or more by weight of the composition and the tocopherol is present in an amount of from 0.01 to 5% by weight of the composition.

Ultra-stable composition comprising moringa oil and it's derivatives and uses thereof

Compositions or fluids comprising esters of long-chain organic molecules derived from natural oils, particularly plant, bean, seed and nut oils can be provided with increased oxygen stability by their combination with mixtures of particular classes of antioxidants, particularly combinations of at least one tocopherol and a supplemental ingredient selected from the class consisting of kojic acid, malic acid and ascorbic acid. The stabilization combination is particularly effective in combination with esters of long-chain organic molecules having less than 20% methylene interrupted polyunsaturation. An emollient composition is described that comprises a long-chain ethyl ester in combination with an oxidation stabilizing systems comprising at least one tocopherol and at least one supplemental additive selected from the group consisting of kojic acid, malic acid, and ascorbic acid. The long-chain ethyl ester may comprise an ethyl ester of a natural oil. The long-chain ethyl ester may have a percent methylene interrupted unsaturation of less than 20%, less than 15%, less than 10%, or less than 5%. The emollient composition may have the at least one supplemental additive present in an amount of from 0.01 to 2% or more by weight of said long-chain ethyl ester and the tocopherol is present in an amount of from 0.01 to 5% by weight of said long-chain ethyl ester. The emollient composition preferably has the long-chain ethyl ester selected from the class consisting of ethyl ester of macadamia oil, ethyl ester of hybrid sunflower, ethyl ester of babassu oil and meadowfoam having a percentage methylene interrupted unsaturation of less than 5.
