The present invention is directed to a hollow turbine airfoil having a cooling system designed to provide enhanced cooling to the fillet of a turbine airfoil. The turbine airfoil may include at least one fillet cooling channel, passing proximate to the fillet. A portion of the fillet cooling channel may be positioned proximate to the fillet outer surface without breaching an outer surface of the turbine airfoil. The turbine airfoil may include a vortex plate positioned adjacent to the end wall inner surface proximate to the fillet and an opening of the fillet cooling channel may be in fluid communication with the vortex chamber. The turbine airfoil may also include at least one end wall film cooling channel that may extend obliquely through the end wall and may be in fluid communication with the vortex chamber.

Advanced cooling method for combustion turbine airfoil fillets

A turbine fluid guide member ( ) including an airfoil portion ( ), a platform portion ( ) and fillet ( ) joining the airfoil portion to the platform portion. Fillet cooling holes ( - ) are positioned in the turbine fluid guide member relative to a pressure side vortex flow ( ) so that a cooling fluid flow ( ) exiting the hole is directed to form a cooling film ( ) over the fillet. The cooling holes may be positioned in the airfoil portion, the platform portion, or any combination thereof, depending on the geometry of the airfoil and resultant vortex flows around the airfoil. A method of cooling a fillet of the turbine fluid guide member may include identifying a vortex flow around the fillet and selectively positioning a hole relative to the vortex flow such that a cooling fluid flow exiting the hole is directed to form a cooling film over the fillet.

Cooling of combustion turbine airfoil fillets

An apparatus for cooling the trailing edge portion of a gas turbine vane. Two radially extending passages connected to the outer shroud direct cooling fluid to a plenum formed about mid-span adjacent the trailing edge. Two arrays of cooling fluid passages extend from the plenum. One array extends radially outward toward the outer shroud while the other array extends radially inward toward the inner shroud. The plenum distributes the cooling fluid to the two arrays of passages so that it flows radially inward and outward to manifolds formed in the inner and outer shrouds. The manifolds direct the spent cooling fluid to a discharge passage.

Apparatus for cooling a gas turbine airfoil

A gas turbine power plant in which a mixture of steam and compressed air, the mixture being primarily steam, is used to cool the rotating blades and stationary vanes in the turbine section. The air is bled from the compressor. The flow rate of steam that is mixed into the compressed air is adjusted so to maintain the pressure drop experienced by the compressed air as it flows to the turbine within a predetermined range. Consequently, the steam and air mixture has the same volumetric flow rate as if compressed air alone were being used. Thus, any sudden decrease in steam flow rate will automatically result in an offsetting increase in the flow of compressed air due to the decrease in the line pressure in the common line through which the air and steam flow to the turbine. Consequently, no control, isolation or check valves are utilized in the compressed air piping.

Steam cooling of gas turbine with backup air cooling

A mechanically built cover for an underground pit which accommodates one or more hunters, and gives maximum freedom of movement and firearm safety. It is preferably used by duck and goose hunters. The cover is built for instant opening, allowing time for the hunters to get their birds within shooting range. This cover will cut down on injured birds which leave the area to die. A designed safety feature of this pit cover is that one man can pull the cord which opens the cover instantly allowing other hunters in the pit to have complete control of their firearms. The pit cover may be camouflaged with whatever is in the hunting area such as corn stalks or any other natural foliages.
