A microgrid according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a plurality of intelligent electronic devices configured to communicate directly with one another in a first language. Each of the intelligent electronic devices includes a controller and a gateway. The gateway is configured to convert incoming messages from the first language to a second language native to the controller. The first language is different than the second language. A method is also disclosed.

Intra-microgrid communication architecture

An exemplary device for determining a position of a component moved by operation of a motor includes a rotating member that rotates responsive to operation of the motor. At least one accelerometer is supported on the rotating member. The accelerometer provides at least one of an indication of a tangential force that is tangential to a direction of rotation of the rotating member and a radial force that is perpendicular to the tangential force. A controller determines the position of the component based upon the force indication from the accelerometer.

Device and method for determining position information using accelerometers on a rotating component

A three-phase regenerative drive () is operated based upon power from a single-phase AC source () and power from a DC source (). The single-phase AC input power and the DC input power are converted to DC voltage on a DC bus () by a three-phase converter (). DC power is provided from the DC bus () to a three-phase inverter having outputs connected to a motor (). A controller () controls operation of the three-phase converter () based upon contribution factors of the AC and DC sources () during motoring and regeneration. The controller () also controls an AC component of current from the DC source to reduce ripple current on the DC bus ().

Operation of a three-phase regenerative drive from mixed DC and single phase AC power sources

Power is managed in an elevator system including an elevator hoist motor (), a primary power supply (), and an electrical energy storage (EES) system (). A power demand of the elevator hoist motor is determined, and a state-of-charge (SOC) of the EES system is determined. Power exchanged between the hoist motor, the primary power supply, and the EES system is controlled based on the power demand of the hoist motor and the SOC of the EES system.

Management of power from multiple sources in an elevator power system

A device () manages power source variations in an elevator system. The device includes a transformer () having a primary () and a secondary (). An input of the elevator system is connected to the secondary (). Tap switches () are connected to the transformer () such that each tap switch is connected to a tap point () on the transformer (). A controller () operates the tap switches () based on a sensed power source output to provide power on the secondary () within a tolerance band of the elevator system.

A system for accurately marking cables employs optical devices to measure the actual distance between periodic impressions and apparatus to adjust the marking apparatus to maintain a fixed distance between such impressions.

System for measuring cable footage

A laser beam is focused to a spot on the surface of an object whose contour is to be measured. The spot is projected from the surface onto a detector by a reciprocating mirror which scans the spot across the detector. The detector produces two output signals consisting of sequential pulses at the frequency scan. The relative duration of these pulses or duty cycle reflects the change in contour dimension with respect to the scan centerline or mid point that corresponds to the base or zero dimension of the contour surface. The duty cycle is utilized to compute the change in contour dimension and to move the optics in such a way as to allow the spot to be continually scanned across the detector. The movement of the optics is made whenever there is a certain contour dimension change and by correlating the movement in the position of the optics and the instantaneous computed contour change reflected in the scan, the actual contour dimension is obtained.
