Described herein are various inventions and embodiments thereof, directed to systems, devices, and methods for analysis of a biofluid, as well as controlling a biofluid analysis system using a microfluidic device. Embodiments of biofluid analysis systems disclosed herein may provide analysis of a biofluid to identify and characterize one or more analytes. An apparatus may include a first layer defining a first opening and a second opening. The first layer may be substantially transparent. A second layer may be coupled to the first layer and define a microfluidic channel that establishes a fluid communication path between the first opening and the second opening. At least a portion of the second layer may be substantially opaque.

Systems, devices and methods for microfluidic analysis

Described herein are various embodiments directed to rotor devices, systems, and kits. Embodiments of rotors disclosed herein may be used to characterize one or more analytes of a fluid. An apparatus may include a first layer being substantially transparent. A second layer may be coupled to the first layer. The second layer may be substantially absorbent to infrared radiation. The second layer and the first layer may collectively define a set of wells. The first layer may define a base for each well of the set of wells. The second layer may define an opening for each well of the set of wells. At least one of the first layer and the second layer may define a sidewall for each well of the set of wells.

Microfluidic rotor device

Described herein are various embodiments directed to rotor devices, systems, and kits. Embodiments of rotors disclosed herein may be used to characterize one or more analytes of a fluid. An apparatus may include a first layer being substantially transparent. A second layer may be coupled to the first layer to collectively define a set of wells. The second layer may define a channel, and the second layer may be substantially absorbent to infrared radiation. A third layer may be coupled to the second layer. The third layer may define an opening configured to receive a fluid. The third layer may be substantially transparent. The channel may establish a fluid communication path between the opening and the set of wells.

Systems and methods for manufacturing a microfluidic rotor device

Described herein are various embodiments directed to rotor devices, systems, and kits. Embodiments of rotors disclosed herein may be used to characterize one or more analytes of a fluid. A method may include aligning an apparatus to an imaging device. The apparatus may include a set of wells defined by a first layer coupled to a second layer. The first layer may be substantially transparent to infrared radiation. The second layer may define a channel. The second layer may be substantially absorbent to the infrared radiation. The apparatus may further include a third layer coupled to the second layer and define an opening configured to receive a fluid. The third layer may be substantially transparent to the infrared radiation. A set of images of the apparatus may be generated using the imaging device. Bonding information may be generated based on the set of images.

Systems and methods for inspecting a microfluidic rotor device

A centrifugal rotor device includes a first chamber configured to hold a fluid, and a second chamber configured to receive the fluid from the first chamber. The centrifugal rotor device also includes a conduit coupled to the first chamber at a conduit inlet and coupled to the second chamber at a conduit outlet, the conduit configured to permit movement of the fluid from the first chamber to the second chamber. The conduit includes a first channel and a second channel formed adjacent to the first channel. The second channel is in fluid communication with the first channel and has a dimension smaller than the smallest dimension of the first channel. The conduit also includes one or more obstructive features present in the second channel configured to impede movement of the fluid in the second channel.

Electrically-conductive patterns for monitoring the filling of medical devices

A device for accessing biological fluid, sampling biological fluid constituents and determining the concentration of at least one target constituent within the accessed biological fluid is provided. The device has at least one micro-piercing member used to penetrate the skin to a selected depth and to access biological fluid, a constituent sampling means and a constituent measuring means. The constituent sampling means comprises a constituent transfer medium, such as a hydrophilic gel material, by which sampled constituents are transferred from the micro-piercing member to the measuring means. The measuring means includes an electrochemical cell having at least one porous electrode through which at least one sampled constituent is caused to enter into the electrochemical cell. Methods of sampling constituents within the skin and measuring the sampled constituents, as well as kits for practicing the invention are provided.

Biological fluid constituent sampling and measurement devices

A fluidic medical diagnostic device permits measurement of analyte concentration or a property of a biological fluid, particularly the coagulation time of blood. The device has at one end a sample port for introducing a sample and at the other end a bladder for drawing the sample to a measurement area. A channel carries the sample from the sample port to the measurement area, and a stop junction, between the measurement area and bladder, halts the sample flow. The desired measurement can be made by placing the device into a meter which measures a physical property of the sample&#x2014;typically, optical transmittance&#x2014;after it has interacted with a reagent in the measurement area.

Fluidic device for medical diagnostics

A medical diagnostic device for measuring an analyte concentration or property of a biological fluid includes capillary flow channels to convey a sample of the fluid from an inlet to a branching point, and then to a measurement area and, alternatively, through a bypass channel to an overflow region. A first stop junction stops fluid flow after it enters the measurement area. The bypass channel has a capillary dimension in at least one direction. A second stop junction, in the bypass channel, has boundary region that has a dimension that is greater in that direction and forms an angle that points toward the branching point. With this construction, the second stop junction initially prevents flow to the overflow region, but permits the flow after the measurement area is filled. The device is particularly suited for measuring coagulation time of blood.

Devices for dispensing test strips and methods of using the same are provided. The subject devices are characterized by having a housing made of a cover and a base configured to retain a plurality of test strips. In certain embodiments, the height of the base is less than the height of each of the test strips, such that a portion of each of the test strips extends beyond the distal or top edge of the base. The subject devices may further be characterized as having a substantially air and moisture tight seal. In using the subject devices, a plurality of test strips stored in a subject device are provided. A single test strip is removed from the subject device by moving the test strip distal to the remaining test strips. Also provided by the subject invention are kits for use in practicing the subject methods.

A device for sampling a biological fluid and measuring a target analyte within the biological fluid is provided. The device has at least one micro-piercing member used to penetrate the skin to a selected depth and access biological fluid, a sampling means and a measuring means. The sampling means comprises a fluid transfer medium, such as a hydrophilic porous material, by which sampled biological fluid is transferred from the micro-piercing member to the measuring means. The measuring means includes an electrochemical cell having at least one porous electrode and, typically, a reagent material, where the electrochemical cell is configured so as to make an electrochemical measurement of a target analyte in accessed biological fluid present therein. Methods of sampling biological fluids within the skin and measuring the sampled fluids are also provided, as well as kits comprising one or more of the inventive devices.
