An air conditioner unit includes a bulkhead defining an indoor portion and an outdoor portion, a vent aperture defined in the bulkhead, and a make-up air module for urging a flow of make-up air from the outdoor portion through the vent aperture to the indoor portion. The make-up air module includes a heat exchanger defining a primary flow path and an auxiliary flow path, wherein the primary flow path is fluidly isolated and thermally coupled to the auxiliary flow path, an energy recovery duct providing fluid communication between the indoor portion and the auxiliary flow path, a primary fan fluidly coupled to the primary flow path for urging the flow of make-up air into the indoor portion through the vent aperture, and an auxiliary fan fluidly coupled to the auxiliary flow path for drawing a flow of auxiliary air through the energy recovery duct and the auxiliary flow path.

A method for operating an air conditioner includes transmitting a plurality of signals between a remote user interface and the air conditioner through a plurality of wires that extend between the remote user interface and the air conditioner when the air conditioner is in a diagnostic mode. Each signal of the plurality of signals corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of wires. The method also include sequentially presenting a respective one or more characters on a display of a user interface of the air conditioner in response to each signal of the plurality of signals being received at the air conditioner.

A heater assembly includes one or more first heating elements, the one or more first heating elements being characterized by a positive temperature coefficient; and one or more second heating elements, the one or more second heating elements comprising resistance wire elements. The one or more second heating elements are positioned in proximity to the one or more first heating elements such that at least one of the one or more second heating elements is configured to, upon being powered on, pre-heat at least one of the one or more first heating elements before the at least one first heating element is powered on.
