A user access control system comprises electrical components of electrical switchgear, and locking mechanisms that secure the components from unauthorized access. The user access control system further comprises an identification input unit to receive user input to identify a user; an authentication unit to authenticate the user input based on a security policy, determine an access level, and generate a digital access key; and an equipment control unit to selectively allow or deny access to the electrical switchgear components by using the digital access key to unlock or lock the locking mechanisms.

Systems and methods for user access control of electrical switchgear

An apparatus includes first and second components. A track supports one of the components for movement toward the other of the components. A first connector is mounted on the first component. The first connector retains an end portion of a first fiber optic cable, and has a first alignment portion. A second connector retains an end portion of a second fiber optic cable, and has a second alignment portion. The second alignment portion guides the second fiber optic cable radially into coaxial alignment with the first fiber optic cable upon movement of the first alignment portion against the second alignment portion. A floating mount device supports the second connector on the second component for guided movement radially relative to the second component upon movement of the first alignment portion against the second alignment portion.

Connectors for fiber optic cables

An arc quenching device creates a fault on a bus. A lockout mechanism of a circuit breaker feeding the bus is responsively actuated. Actuating the lockout mechanism may include releasing a spring-loaded mechanism mounted on a cassette that holds the circuit breaker to cause the mechanism to engage a lockout member of the circuit breaker.

Circuit breaker inerlock for arc quenching device

An arc quenching device includes a frame, at least one controlled-arcing device supported by the frame, and at least one contact assembly supported by the frame and electrically connected to the at least one controlled-arcing device. The device further includes a racking mechanism supported by the frame and including a motor and at least one actuator member driven by the motor and configured to engage a feature in an electrical equipment unit compartment to move the arc quenching device within the compartment and engage the at least one contact assembly with a bus of the electrical equipment unit. The arc quenching device may be configured to be installed in a cassette in the electrical equipment unit and the actuator member may be configured to engage a feature of the cassette.

A test apparatus includes an output configured to be coupled to a sense input of an arc quenching device control circuit of an arc quenching system, a user interface, and a control circuit configured to generate a simulated sense signal at the output in response to an input at the user interface, the simulated sense signal representing a physical state associated with a fault condition of a bus coupled to the arc quenching system. The simulated sense signal may be configured to cause the arc quenching device control circuit to trigger an arc quenching device of the arc quenching system. The physical state may include, for example, a voltage condition, a current condition, a temperature, a pressure or a light intensity. In some embodiments, the simulated sense signal may include a current indicative of a current passing through a bus to which the arc quenching system is connected.

Test apparatus and methods for arc mitigation device

An electrical system includes first, second and third busses; a first interrupter electrically connected between the first and second busses; at least one of a shorting apparatus operatively associated with the first or second bus, and the first interrupter comprising a trip coil; a current sensor to sense a fault current flowing in the first bus and responsively output a first signal; a number of light sensors to sense an arc flash operatively associated with a number of the first, second or third busses and responsively output a second signal; a second interrupter electrically connected between the second and third power busses and output a third signal; and a circuit to invert the third signal to provide a fourth signal, and to operate the at least one of the shorting apparatus and the trip coil responsive to an AND of the first, second and fourth signals.

Arc flash detection apparatus and electrical system including the same

A cable management system maintains separation laterally between a plurality of distinct phase conductors, each of which includes one or more insulated electrical cables. The system includes an electrically non-conductive brace having free ends, a length between the free ends, and predetermined conductor locations that are spaced apart from one another along the length. Apertures extend through the brace at the conductor locations. The cable management system further includes retainer straps and strap locks. Each retainer strap reaches around a corresponding conductor at one of the conductor locations on one side of the brace, and reaches further through a corresponding pair of the apertures to the opposite side of the brace. Each strap lock engages a retainer strap at one side of the brace to retain a corresponding conductor in place at the conductor location on the opposite side of the brace.
