The invention relates an additive for improving antioxidant capabilities in a lubricating composition, where the lubricating composition is based on a major amount of a lubricating oil and 0.1-5.0 mass percent of an additive, the additive including a secondary diarlyamine and an organoammonium tungstate.

The invention relates to a novel asymmetrical, secondary dialkylamine-based molybdenum dithiocarbamate with improved friction reducing performance, viscosity and solubility, and lubricating compositions containing the same. The compounds are produced from asymmetrical dialkylamine of the formula R1-NH&#x2014;R2 where R1 and R2 are different, and are independently selected from alkyl groups C3 to C19. In a preferred embodiment, R3 and R4 are different and are independently selected from alkyl groups C3 to C19. The molybdenum dithiocarbamates can be represented by the following formula:

Novel organoammonium compounds are provided, which are useful as additives for improving the antiwear and friction-reducing properties of lubricating compositions. The compound is formed by reacting a metal acid hydrate with one or more alkyl amines. Particular examples are the preparation of ditridecylammonium tungstate, di-n-octylammonium tungstate and ditridecylammonium molybdate.

A process is provided for the manufacture of highly sulfurized metal dithiocarbamates, such as molybdenum dithiocarbamate. A metal source source, water and a reagent amine are heated under pressure with carbon disulfide.
