A surface mount electrical connector for use on printed circuit boards including plug and receptacle connectors is disclosed for use with parallel and perpendicular printed circuit boards. Box and pin terminals are positioned in rows adjacent a ground bus. The connectors are attached to the boards by posts on the ground bus. The terminals are insertable in cavities in the connector housings and can be retained in a partially inserted position. Mounting the connector housing on the printed circuit board independently inserts the terminals fully into housing cavities with compliant solder tails on each terminal being in contact with conductive pads on the boards despite deformities or warpage of the boards.

Surface mount, miniature connector

A photovoltaic module is disclosed in the form of a shingle having an active portion containing photovoltaic cells and an inactive mounting portion. Flat flexible ribbon-like positive and negative leads extend from the terminals in the active portion. The individual modules are mounted on a surface by means of fasteners extending through the inactive portions of the modules. At the time of installation, the flexible leads are folded to provide a servicing loop and the ends of the leads are then connected into the electrical network of the system. Individual modules can be removed from the system by moving the modules in their own planes away from the array of modules with accompanying straightening of the loops so that modules can be replaced. Improved circuit arrangements for connecting modules in an array and improved installation methods are disclosed which take advantage of the flat flexible conductors extending from the modules.

Photovoltaic power generation

A connector for use in terminating flat conductors which provides a minimum profile. The connector employs coined contact rings which pierce the conductor insulation and establish electrical contact without conductor damage. A lance and guide hole arrangement provides alignment and mechanical locking of the connector.

Under carpet cable connector

A connector for establishing electrical contact between two insulated conductors is disclosed. The connector employs a generally V-shaped member having multiple slots extending inwardly from one longitudinal edge of a metallic terminal member. Two slots on the terminal member penetrate the insulation and establish contact with the conductive core of each conductor. A rigid insulating housing anchors the terminal and provides a means for forcing the conductors into the slots. This V-shaped terminal configuration results in the generation of resilient stresses which lead to the establishment of a sufficient slot-type electrical contact with a conductor having a relatively large number of strands comprising its conductive core. This connector is also adapted for use with flat multi-conductor cable.

Tap connector for use with stranded wire

Power distribution system for building wiring comprises a flat three conductor cable which is mounted on a surface, such as a floor, and tap cables extending laterally to outlets, loads, and controls. The tap connections of the branch or tap cables are made with electrical connectors crimped onto conductors in the distribution cable and the brand cable. An improved crimp is disclosed for making these connections.
