A data processing and storage system includes semi-permanent disk storage for storing transaction data relating to a plurality of parcels. The transaction data includes character information data which is read from the parcels and scale data which is provided by an associated parcel register scale system. When the data processing and storage system is interrogated by a remote host computer, the transaction data is read from the disk and transmitted to the remote host computer for further processing.

A high speed label printer includes a supply roll for supplying connected labels which are adhesively attached to a backing strip, to a pair of printing heads for printing indicia thereon. A platen provides support for the label during the printing operation and the backing is peeled from the label as it is drawn over the platen. A pair of friction drive rollers engage the peeled backing and are driven by a stepper motor to transport the labels past the printing heads. A housing for the supply roll of labels has spacers which confine the extent to which the roll unravels in the housing. When the stepper motor is started, the unravelled outer turns of the supply roll are initially withdrawn from the supply roll housing, thereby exerting a minimal torque on the stepper motor during start-up.

The system is responsive to a signal from a weight computer to selectively move levers on a lever type postage metering machine to postage selecting positions corresponding to computed postage. The system includes a plurality of actuating members with connecting members for embracing the tabs on the ends of the postage selecting or setting levers of the metering machine for moving the levers to the selected positions. The connecting members follow the natural motion of the tabs on the postage selecting levers. The operating members are moved to their selective positions by alternating rotating discs controlled by an alternately driven motor, which is driven in response to a signal from the weight computer with a comparator circuit for comparing and selecting the respective positions of the discs. The discs contain code position indicators which are sensed by code sensing means connected to the computer for operating a latch system for selectively latching and unlatching the respective discs, for permitting them to be driven to selected positions for actuating the postage meter levers.

Automatic operating system for lever type postage metering machine

Platform loads are applied to a single load cell through a load transfer frame. The load transfer frame is suspended for movement with the platform. An interconnection member under the influence of an overload spring normally holds the load transfer frame and the platform in a load transfer relationship. Loads in excess of a predetermined value cause the interconnection member to move out of load transfer relationship with the load transfer frame so that the platform can move against stops without damaging the load cell. The flexure plates with integral flexure rods are utilized to suspend both the load transfer frame and interconnection member.
