The subject matter of this disclosure can be implemented in, among other things, a device that includes processors, a data repository, and a table version module configured to create a first version of a database within the data repository using a first version of a database schema that defines a set of tables for the database, and receive a result that is responsive to a command, such that when the result indicates a success condition, execution of the command allows access to data contained in the database and verification of the database schema version, wherein the result does not include database schema version information. The device further includes means for executing the command to access the data, wherein the command includes one or more encoded table names, and wherein each of the encoded table names included in the command is generated based on at least a database schema version identifier.

Certain implementations of the disclosed technology may include systems and methods for object selection on presence-sensitive devices. According to an example implementation, a method is provided for outputting, by a computing device and for display, a view containing a first selectable object and a second selectable object; initiating a gesture selection mode in response to receipt of a selection gesture; receiving respective indications of a swipe gesture sequence; outputting, for display, an indication that the first and second selectable objects are selected in response to determining that a first portion of the swipe gesture sequence encircled the first and second selectable objects; and outputting, for display, an indication that the first selectable object is selected and the second selectable object is unselected in response to determining that a second portion of the swipe gesture sequence encircled the first selectable object and did not encircle the second selectable object.

In one aspect, a method includes receiving user input at a computing device, displaying a contact hovercard on a display of the computing device in response to the user input, the contact hovercard including first contact data and second contact data, the first contact data corresponding to a first web application and the second contact data corresponding to a second web application, the first web application and the second web application being executed on one or more servers, receiving user input selecting the first contact data, generating a user interface and accessing the first web application over a network in response to receiving the user input selecting the first contact data, and providing the first contact data as input to the first web application.

A computing device has one or more processors and memory storing programs executed by the one or more processors. The computing device initializes a main application on a first thread. The main application has a first synchronous connection with a target application. After the main application performs one or more operations at the target application through the first synchronous connection, the computing device initializes an assistant process on a second thread. The assistant process has a second synchronous connection with the target application and an asynchronous connection with the main application. After receiving a request from the main application through the asynchronous connection, the assistant process performs one or more operations at the target application through the second synchronous connection.

System and method for reducing startup cost of a software application

A computer-implemented method executed by at least one processor performs operations for a web browser running a browser process and at least one renderer process on a computing system. The method includes identifying a webview tag in a web page, the web page being associated with the at least one renderer process. The method also includes forking another renderer process responsive to identifying the webview tag, generating a mapping between the at least one renderer process and the other renderer process at the browser process, and using the browser process as an intermediary for communications between the at least one renderer process and the another renderer process based on the mapping.

A plurality of updates is received form the server. The plurality of updates includes messages corresponding to respective conversations in the list of conversations.

Mechanism for message prefetching in an intermittently connected offline-capable mobile web application

Methods and systems for web page restoration are provided. A method for restoring web pages includes identifying a root node of a node graph, wherein each node of the node graph represents an object of a plurality of objects that form a last state of a web page, including DOM objects. The method also includes traversing the node graph to a next frontier node and determining an object identifier of the next frontier node. The method further includes storing the object identifier and associated properties into a queue of objects when the object identifier of the next frontier node is not found in the queue of objects. The queue of objects may be used to restore objects with object properties having values according to the last state of the web page. Scripting language objects may also be stored for later restoration.

The methods track abnormal events on mobile client devices, such as web application crashes, and use that information to associate the abnormal events with device characteristics. A first method executes on mobile client devices. When a web application starts, the method looks for a crash indicator cookie in persistent memory. If the cookie does not exist, the method creates and stores it. If the cookie already exists, the method collects information about the client device, such as device type, browser type, and operating system, and sends the information to a web server. The web application deletes the cookie when the application terminates normally. A second method executes on a web server. This method receives information from client devices relating to abnormal events for web applications. The information includes device characteristics of each client device. This method stores the information and associates a pattern of abnormal events with device characteristics.

Tracking remote browser crashes via cookies

A computer system operating a web application with offline capabilities, including a web browser, a local web application, a write queue maintained in the local memory and a persistent local database. When the web application needs to perform an operation on a data item, the web application issues a database request to determine if the data item is in the local database. If the data item is not in the local database, the web application issues the data request to the server system. If the data item is in the local database, the web application performs the operation on the data item stored in the database and writes the operation to the write queue along with the identifier of the data item. When a network connection exits between the client device and the server system, the web interface drains the write queue to the server system.

Architectural pattern for persistent web application design

Methods and systems for managing open documents are disclosed. Document representations are displayed in a carousel display. Each of the representations displays a document viewport portion of content from a corresponding open document. Upon determining a first gesture associated with a selected representation, a full view of the document viewport portion of the open document corresponding to the selected representation is displayed. The content of the open document displayed in the document viewport portion may be adjusted based upon a user action in the open document. Upon determining a second gesture, the full view of the document viewport portion is closed and the adjusted content is displayed as the document viewport portion in the carousel display. A greater portion of the open document than what is visible in the document viewport portion is displayed.

A server system receives a first request for a data item from a web application on a client device, wherein the first request includes an identifier of the data item. In response to the first request, the server system calculates a first checksum of the data item and sends the data item and the first checksum to the web application, for storage in the local database. The server system receives a second request for the data item from the web application, calculates a second checksum of the data item and compares the first and second checksums. The server system, determines that the data item has been updated by comparing the first checksum to the second checksum; and in response to determining that the data item has been updated, the server system a reply to the web application a indicating that the data item has been updated.

Techniques are described herein that provide a web application that incorporates one or more shared worker applications. In one example, a shared worker application as described herein may receive a first request for first information for a first web application, acquire the first information in response to the request, and store at least a portion of the first information in a memory of a local communications device. The shared worker may further receive a second request for second information for a second web application. The shared worker may determine whether at least a portion of the first information stored in the memory of the local communications device will satisfy the second request for the second information. The shared worker may provide, from the local memory to the second web application, at least the portion of the first information in response to the second request.

Systems and methods to provide a user-interface graphic are implemented on a client system having one or more processors and memory to store programs. The method includes, while executing a browser application on the client system, displaying a page on a display of the client system; displaying the user-interface graphic over the page at a first position relative to the page. The method further includes receiving a request to scroll the page, responding to the request by scrolling the page, and in response to detecting an end of the scrolling, displaying the user-interface graphic at a second position relative to the page.

The subject matter of this document can be implemented in, among other things, a method that includes receiving, by a process executing separately from a first software application on a computing device, a first message generated by the first software application. The method further includes storing, by the process executing separately from the first software application, the received first message in a volatile memory storage location of the computing device.
