A pneumatic tire is disclosed having two annular bead portions having a bead core. A carcass extends between the bead portions through sidewall portions and a tread portion, wherein the carcass includes at least two axially inner plies which extend down from the tread and axially inward of the bead core, said at least two axially inner plies being wound around the bead core forming respective turn-ups, each turnup being located axially outward of the bead core. The carcass further includes a first axially outer ply which extends down from the tread towards the bead core and positioned axially outward of the bead core, wherein at least one of the axially outer plies is formed from reinforcements having a higher break strength than the reinforcements of the axially inner plies.

Aircraft tire

A pneumatic tire having a carcass and a belt reinforcing structure wherein the belt reinforcing structure is a composite belt structure having at least one radially inner spiral layer and at least one zigzag belt reinforcing structure located radially outward of said spiral layer. The zigzag belt width is preferably wider than the spiral layer.

Reduced weight aircraft tire

A pneumatic tire having a carcass and a belt reinforcing structure wherein the belt reinforcing structure is a composite belt structure having at least one pair of radially outer zigzag layers and at least one spirally wound belt layer with cords inclined at an inclination of 5 degrees or less relative to the tire's centerplane and located radially inward of and adjacent to the at least two radially outer belt layers. The at least two radially outer zigzag belt layers have cords inclined at 5 degrees to 30 degrees relative to the tire's centerplane and extending in alternation to turnaround points at each lateral edge of the belt layer. At each turnaround point the cords are folded or preferably bent to change direction across the crown of the carcass thus forming a zigzag cord path.

Tire having a composite belt structure

A method of forming a composite belt structure for a tire is disclosed. The composite belt structure has cord reinforced layers including at least two radially outer zigzag belt layers. The cords per inch in the shoulder portion are greater than the cords per inch in the central portion as measured centered on the centerplane of the belt structure. The method discloses the steps of applying a multicord reinforced strip having a strip width SW onto a rotating crowned building drum, the strip being wound in a zigzag configuration to form at least two zigzag layers, wherein the crowned drum has non-overlapping portions of the strip placed in a central portion and extending in alternation to a pair of shoulder portions having portions of the strips overlapping to form belt layers.

Pneumatic tire with composite belt structure

The belts of the reinforcing structure of a pneumatic tire are reinforced with high strength, light weight aramid cords having a linear density of 420 to 1100 dTex, the cords having a twist of 315 to 551 TPM (8 to 14 TPI). In alternative embodiments, overlay material may be incorporated into the belt reinforcing structure. An illustrated embodiment of the tire has a belt reinforcing structure comprising a folded belt folded around a cut belt.
