A packet data generating method and apparatus for supporting multiple services in a wireless packet data communication system where an MS transmits two or more traffics to a BS on one of a reverse PDCH, a reverse FCH, and a reverse DCCH. To generate a PDU using non-signaling traffic and/or signaling traffic for one of the reverse physical channels, a multiplex option is determined during service negotiations between the MS and the BS. The multiplex option defines a traffic format having a header and a payload including traffic data, and the header includes a service reference identifier field, a length indicator field indicating the presence or absence of a length field, and the length field indicating the length of the traffic data. A PDU is generated by formatting a reverse traffic to have a header and a payload according to the determined multiplex option.

Method and apparatus for generating packet data to support multiple services in a wireless packet data communication system

A method of determining whether a wireless packet data service can be activated in a dormant state. To activate one of a plurality of packet data services in the dormant state, a BS transmits to an MS a Page Message containing an SR ID identifying the service to be activated. If a service instance for the service is unavailable, the MS transmits to the BS a response message indicating that the service cannot be reconnected. The BS then terminates immediately, thereby saving radio resources and improving system performance.

Method of providing packet data service in a wireless telecommunication system

A method and apparatus for encapsulating a PDU in a wireless packet data communication system. In a system providing voice and high-rate packet data services, an LAC layer and an RLP layer generate SDUs of MuxPDU Type, orwith signaling information and RLP_control information. A MAC layer determines whether to transmit the SDUs on a PDCH supporting MuxPDU Type. If the PDCH is connected, the MAC layer encapsulates the SDUs with a MuxPDU Typeheader and an extension header having encapsulation information, thereby generating MuxPDUs of MuxPDU Type. A physical layer transmits the MuxPDUs on the PDCH.

In one embodiment, a CDMA network is used to securely communicate a key that is used for communications in a data network. A method for allowing a mobile of a wireless communication simultaneous access to multiple data networks coupled to the wireless communication network. A network interface is created between network controlling elements, such as Base Station Controllers, of the wireless communication network. The network interface allows various communication channels established by the mobile to be routed to network controlling elements that are coupled to the various data networks. Information from various established communication channels are routed between various network controlling elements. Thus, a mobile is able to communicate simultaneously with different data networks. The network interface also allows handoffs to be executed with virtually no interruptions and no loss of information being exchanged between the mobile and system equipment involved in the handoff.

Method for providing multiple points of connectivity to subscribers of wireless communication networks

In a digital cellular communications network, calls to and from a fax machine or other data equipment coupled to a digital phone require special encoding circuitry. Calls to and from a fax machine or other data device using amplitude and/or phase modulated tones can be handled more efficiently by monitoring such incoming calls for the presence of audio control tones. Upon the detection of such tones, appropriate encoding circuitry is automatically switched in to properly encode/decode data tones so as to permit the automatic transmission of data over a wireless cellular network using CDMA, TDMA or other digital protocols.
