Dynamic in-route reconfiguration in a satellite network includes receiving at least one of transmit power capability and demand requirements from one or more active satellite terminals of the satellite network, determining a resulting in-route configuration during operation of the satellite network based on the received at least one of transmit power capability and demand requirements, comparing the determined resulting in-route configuration to a current in-route configuration. When the determined resulting in-route configuration is different from the current in-route configuration, establishing the determined resulting in-route configuration as the current in-route configuration and storing the established current in-route configuration in a dynamic in-route reconfiguration manager, and transmitting the established current in-route configuration to the one or more active satellite terminals.

Dynamic inroute reconfiguration of satellite network communication systems

An Encrypted Transport (ET) proxy module is configured to receive incoming ET proxy packets from an ET proxy backbone module and transmit outgoing ET proxy packets to the ET proxy backbone module. The ET proxy module is also configured to set up an HTTP tunnel with an ET proxy client of the client device or with an ET proxy at a web server for receiving incoming UDP payloads from the client device or web server and transmitting outgoing UDP payloads to the client device or web server. The ET proxy module is also configured to receive prioritization preferences from client devices or web servers pertaining to the UDP payloads indicating preferred quality-of-service (QoS) classes for the UDP payloads, and to schedule transmission of the outgoing UDP payloads via the HTTP tunnel based on QoS classes of the outgoing UPD payloads.

Distributed proxy for encrypted transport protocols with efficient multi-priority multiplexed transport for improving user's traffic QOS

A system and method for improving network performance of DNS queries. The system includes a terminal which receives DNS queries from a customer premise equipment (CPE), and supplies matching DNS records in response to the queries. The terminal monitors all traffic from the CPE and generates a preload list containing domains and a time schedule at which name resolution should be requested for the domains. A DNS preload client in the CPE receives the preload list from the terminal, and submits preload DNS queries for name resolution of domains contained in the preload list at times specified in the time schedule. Preload records supplied in response to the preload DNS queries are stored by the CPE and used to resolve DNS queries from applications installed on the CPE.

System and method for improving network performance when using secure DNS access schemes

An Encrypted Transport Proxy Backbone Protocol module is configured to set up ET Proxy Backbone connections with another distributed proxy device with each ET Proxy Backbone connection including multiple ET Proxy Backbone channels for transmitting ET proxy packets having different QoS classes. Each ET Proxy Backbone channel includes a separate queue. The ET Proxy Backbone Protocol module is also configured to schedule transmissions of the ET proxy packets from each respective queue; multiplex the ET proxy packets from each respective queue via the associated ET Proxy Backbone channel; perform local recovery of network impairments over the access network and perform congestion control to prevent packets from client devices and web servers from causing network congestion to the access network.

Distributed proxy for encrypted transport protocol with efficient multi-priority multiplexed transport for improving user's traffic QoS

A terrestrial terminal enables communications, over a network connection, between a local host of one or more connected local hosts and a remote host. The terrestrial terminal is configured to perform operations comprising: receiving, from the remote host, a network packet for the local host; obtaining, from the network packet, an included TCP segment; determining, from the TCP segment, a receive window size advertised by the remote host; computing, using one or more characteristics of the network connection, a target receive window size; comparing the target receive window size with the advertised receive window size; and in response to determining that the target receive window size is different from the advertised receive window size: modifying the TCP segment by replacing the advertised receive window size with the target receive window size, and forwarding the network packet with the modified TCP segment to the local host.

Managing transmission control protocol (TCP) traffic

Systems and methods are provided to achieve dynamic bandwidth allocation among terminal groups (TGs) with proportional fairness in terms of both throughput and spectrum usage across a network. Quality of service (QoS) metrics for such TGs can be satisfied in terms of maximum throughput and spectrum utilization, while also satisfying QoS metrics such as latency, throughput, and prioritized traffic services for individual terminals within the TGs. A centralized bandwidth manager can be utilized to manage such dynamic bandwidth allocation across multiple Code Rate Organizers (CROs), including environments in which the multiple CROs manage communications across multiple IPGWs for multiple terminal groups. Because, in such environments, a given conventional CRO cannot effectively manage allocations across the entire network, the centralized bandwidth management functionality can be introduced to assess the flows for multiple TGs across multiple CROs and to make bandwidth allocations accordingly.

Dynamic bandwidth management with spectrum efficiency for logically grouped terminals in a broadband satellite network

Various arrangements for monitoring and enforcing multi-tier throughput assignments in a network, such as satellite-based communication network, are presented. Throughput usage may be monitored on a beam-level, satellite-level, gateway-level, and system level. Throughput usage for individual satellite terminals may be aggregated and used to determine the throughput usage on an entity-by-entity basis. An entity can have one or more sub-entities to which throughput is allocated. Excessive throughput usage for higher-tier entities can result in throughput being restricted for satellite terminals associated with lower-tier entities.

Hierarchical multi-tier throughput assignment for a shared throughput satellite network

A process for improving network performance in systems that utilize secure domain name system (DNS) schemes. Encrypted DNS requests from devices in a local area network (LAN), such as a home or office, are submitted to a local proxy which stores cached DNS records. The proxy decrypts or examines at least a portion of the DNS request in order search for a matching record in its storage. Matching records are retrieved, encrypted, and supplied to the requesting device to satisfy the DNS request. If the proxy does not contain a matching record, the DNS query is encrypted and submitted to an external DNS server for resolution. The matching record can optionally be saved by the proxy prior to being supplied to the requesting device.

A method of switching from a first gateway within a plurality of first gateways to a second gateway in a network includes precaching configuration information on the second gateway, that is within the first gateways, prior to switch-over to the second gateway. The first gateway from which the second gateway is being switched is identified. The second gateway is configured in accordance with the configuration of the first gateway based on the precached configuration information prior to the switch-over to the second gateway. Data traffic from data applications using the network is replicated and sent to the first gateway and the second gateway. Bandwidths allocated to terminals in the network are frozen in association with the switch-over to the second gateway. The bandwidths allocated to the terminals in the network are unfrozen based at least in part on an indication of completion of the switch-over to the second gateway.

A method of and system for designing a satellite network includes selecting an optimal design for a backhaul network to be used as part of the satellite network, selecting a number of radio frequency (RF) gateways for the satellite network, selecting an optimal number of satellite network cores (SNCs) for the satellite network. The method may also include placing each SNC at a site that is geographically separate from locations of the RF gateways, selecting a number of data centers for the satellite network, connecting each SNC to one or more data centers in the satellite network, and connecting each data center to one or more of the RF gateways via the backhaul network.

Disclosed methods include determining whether previous commitments of service can be met with the test allocation in place. Associated with a positive result, an allocation is sent to the terminal.

System and method for bandwidth profile based allocation and management of a time-varying topology network

Systems and methods are disclosed, and one includes determining a network resource state, based at least in part on a delay level of the network resource, determining a first priority user demand and a second priority user demand for the network resource, and upon the network resource state meeting a condition, adjusting an allocation of network resource bandwidth to the first priority user and an allocation of network resource bandwidth to the second priority user adjusting. The update of the allocation of network resource bandwidth to the first priority user is based at least in part on a combination of the first priority user demand, the second priority user demand, a first priority user guaranteed bandwidth, and a capacity of the network resource. The update of the allocation of network resource bandwidth to the second priority user is based at least in part on the adjusted allocation of network resource bandwidth to the first priority user.

System and method for maximizing throughput using prioritized efficient bandwidth sharing

A terrestrial terminal enables communications, over a network connection through a satellite, between a local host of one or more connected local hosts and a remote host. The terrestrial terminal is configured to perform operations comprising: receiving, from the remote host, a network packet for the local host; obtaining, from the network packet, an included TCP segment; determining, from the TCP segment, a receive window size advertised by the remote host; computing, using one or more characteristics of the network connection, a target receive window size; comparing the target receive window size with the advertised receive window size; and in response to determining that the target receive window size is different from the advertised receive window size: modifying the TCP segment by replacing the advertised receive window size with the target receive window size, and forwarding the network packet with the modified TCP segment to the local host.
