Necked nonwoven webs having improved cross-directional uniformity are made by a process which includes the step (prior to neck stretching) of corrugating the nonwoven web to reduce its width from an initial width A to a reduced corrugated width B. The cross-directional uniformity is optimized as the corrugated width B approaches the ultimate width C of the necked nonwoven web.

Process for making necked nonwoven webs having improved cross-directional uniformity

Presented herein is an apparatus and method for deforming a sheet material. The apparatus includes a deforming roller having a plurality of circumferential depressions and at least one cord in rotational engagement with the roller and adapted to press the material into the depressions. The method includes the steps of providing a rotating deforming roller having circumferential depressions, at least one cord aligned to fit within the depressions and at least one sheet material, and feeding the material in a first direction between the roller and cord and deforming the material by pressing it at least partially into the depressions with the cord. The deformation may include stretching or extending the material, and/or aperturing the material, and/or producing topographical shapes or surface features in the material.

Apparatus and method for deforming sheet material

A thermal transfer roller includes a first end chamber in communication with a source of thermal transfer fluid, an annulus for receiving the fluid and facilitating thermal transfer to a substrate, and a second end chamber in communication with the annulus for receiving the spent thermal transfer fluid. At least one end chamber includes a plurality of channels, each channel having a wider end approaching the annulus and a narrower end away from the annulus. Preferably, the channels are present in both end chambers. The channels substantially reduce angular flow of the fluid caused by rotation of the roller, and help stabilize and maintain desired fluid volumes flowing through the roller as its velocity is increased.

The present invention provides a series of plates for distributing a molten polymer composition, the series of plates includes at least two plates: a first plate that includes an upper surface, a lower surface, and a plurality of polymer distribution channels connecting the upper surface and the lower surface. A method for producing a material having z-direction waves in which a layer of continuous fibers is conveyed on a first moving surface into a nip formed by the first moving surface and a second moving surface which is traveling at a slower speed than the first moving surface, resulting in formation of a plurality of z-direction loops in the fibers giving loft to the material and a wave pattern producing ridges on both major surfaces of the resultant nonwoven web. The method permits easy real time alignment of manufacturing parameters to produce a variety of materials. The method further produces lofty nonwovens at a commercially viable rate.

A process for making a plurality of necked nonwoven strips having similar or identical cross-directional profiles includes the steps of slitting a neckable nonwoven web into a plurality of neckable nonwoven strips, passing the neckable nonwoven web between a first pair of nip rollers having a first surface velocity and a second pair of nip rollers having a second surface velocity greater than the first surface velocity, and necking the nonwoven web between the first pair of nip rollers and the second pair of nip rollers.

There is disclosed a wall panel and wall paneling system which panels include a light weight polystyrene tray having an compartment. Within the compartment is installed a insulative, resilient insert. A fabric facing or web is loosely stretched across the opening of the tray's compartment to enclose the insert within the compartment, and the fabric is glued to the walls of the tray. When the wall panel is installed, by gluing it to the existing walls, molding strips engage the side walls of the tray to hold adjacent panels together, to stretch the fabric facing more tightly across the opening of the compartment, and to expose the molding strips and side walls as uniformly spaced vertical battens.

An automated sleeve transfer apparatus and method adapted to receive continuous webs of material including pairs of left and right sleeves alternating between cuff-to-cuff and shoulder-to-shoulder relation and having a die cutting mechanism for receiving the pairs of sleeves from the webs is disclosed having a circular wheel having rotatable vacuum plates on its circumference for carrying pairs of sleeves along a circular path to a transfer point, a conveyor for transferring successive severed pairs of cuff-to-cuff sleeves from the die cutting mechanism to the vacuum plates on the circumference of the circular wheel, a mechanism within the circular wheel for rotating the vacuum plates to turn each sleeve end for end to rearrange the sleeves from cuff-to-cuff to shoulder-to-shoulder relation while moving along the circular path before said transfer point, a second conveyor for receiving successive severed pairs of shoulder-to-shoulder sleeves from the die cutting mechanism and for conveying the sleeves in spaced relationship along a linear path tangent to the circular path at said transfer point, and a control of the vacuum supplied to the vacuum plates so that successive rearranged pairs of sleeves are transferred as they arrive at the transfer point and are placed in the space between and overlapping successive sleeve pairs on the second conveyor moving along the path and with the cuffs of the sleeves in alignment.
