A structure and methodology of fabrication for a cost effective multipole motor adapted to high volume manufacture. The apparatus includes a low cost housing within which a stator assembly comprised of interchangeable stator electromagnets is installed. A rotor assembly including a plurality of sense magnets and motor magnets integrated onto a rotor shaft is also used. A cover assembly is attached to complete the device. The cover assembly includes a lead frame interconnection assembly and a magnetic sensor adapted to detect the passing of sense magnets to determine the position of the rotor shaft.

Multi-pole electromagnetic motor apparatus and method of assembling

A torque motor comprising a rotor assembly and a stator assembly, the rotor assembly including a permanent rotor magnet being diametrically oriented, and the stator assembly including a pair of upper and lower stator poles spaced circumferentially around the rotor assembly wherein the stator poles are asymmetric in construction.

Limited angle unidirectional torque motor

A control valve assembly for the rotary or linear actuation of control valves using contactless technology and the use of direct integration of electronic componentry into a lead frame interconnection assembly includes a contactless motor, a control valve in mechanical communication with the contactless motor through a gear system, and a lead frame interconnection assembly having electronic componentry relevant to the contactless motor and the control valve integrally formed therein. The contactless motor includes a commutator magnet disposed on a rotor shaft thereof. The commutator magnet is in magnetic communication with at least two commutator chips integrally formed with the lead frame interconnection assembly. The control valve includes a throttle element disposed in a throttle bore, an output shaft depending from the throttle element, and at least one position sensing magnet disposed on an end of the output shaft distal from the throttle element. The position sensing magnet is in magnetic communication with at least one position sensor integrally formed with the lead frame interconnection assembly. The throttle element may be a throttle plate rotatably positioned within the throttle bore, or it may be a linearly translatable device.

Integrated air control valve using contactless technology

A rotary position sensor featuring a robust and simply constructed magnetic field assembly which provides a uniform magnetic field in the working air gap for a conventional mangetosensitive device located thereinside. The magnetic field assembly includes a plastic casing having a blind hollow, magnet pocket located at the blind end of the hollow, and a pair of diametrically opposed pole piece pockets oriented in upstanding relation to the magnet pocket. A permanent magnet is snapped into the magnet pocket, and a pole piece is respectively snapped into each of the pole piece pockets. The pole pieces may be rectangular or arc shaped, wherein the space therebetween forms the working air gap into which the magentosensitive device is placed. The magnetic field established in the working air gap is transverse to the axis of the blind hollow, and is generally uniform.

Rotary position sensor

An electronically actuated, air control valve regulates the flow of combustion air to an internal combustion engine. The valve includes an air passage having a throttle valve rotatable therein between a first, minimum air flow position and a second, maximum air flow position. Between the minimum and the maximum air flow positions is a default air flow position for operation of the engine during actuator inoperativeness. A biasing member has a first end operable to impart a force on the valve member in the direction of the default air flow position when the valve member in operable between the minimum air flow position and the default position. Likewise, the biasing member has a second end operable to impart a force on the valve member in the direction of the default air flow position when the valve member is operated in the range between the default air flow position and the maximum air flow position. As a result, a single biasing member operates to position the throttle valve at a default air flow position between the minimum and the maximum air flow positions across the entire range of positions.

Throttle body default actuation

A remote control lever module comprising a shaft rotatably mounted on a support. A friction pad has a pair or surfaces each of which frictionally resists rotation of the shaft with respect to the support and permits relative rotation between the shafts and the support. A bearing assembly is loosely fit about the shaft to assure that the shaft may rotate in the support.

Remote control lever module

A remote control lever module comprises an inner shaft coaxially located inside an outer shaft. The inner and outer shafts are rotatably mounted on a support and can rotate with respect to one another. A return mechanism is engageable with the inner and outer shafts enabling forward rotation of the inner shaft to cause forward rotation of the outer shaft. The return mechanism further enables extended forward rotation of the inner shaft with respect to the outer shaft, and urges backward rotation of the inner shaft to a rearmost position. The return mechanism limits backward rotation of the inner and outer shafts beyond a nonactuating position. A force spring urges the outer shaft to the nonactuating position. Sensors produce electrical signals proportional to the angular position of the inner and outer shafts. A friction pad can be disposed between the inner shaft and support to frictionally resist rotation of the inner shaft with respect to the support.

A pair of coupling elements connected between an electric stepper motor and an engine throttle are selectively engaged and disengaged by a lever mechanism which effects a relative movement between the coupling elements in response to a mechanical input from a solenoid actuator. The lever mechanism includes integral elements for calibrating the relative movement between the coupling elements for a given mechanical input from the solenoid actuator so as to compensate for manufacturing and assembly tolerances of the various components.

Electric motor servo for cruise control

A low tire pressure sensor for emitting a magnetic signal when the tire pressure reaches a low limit pressure includes a signal device having a magnet movable from a storage position to an actuated position by tire pressure applied to the magnet from an air switch. The air switch includes a bellows charged to a reference pressure and exposed to tire pressure for moving in response to tire pressure changes, and a three-way valve operated by the bellows for venting the signal device to atmospheric pressure when the tire pressure is normal and for closing the vent and applying tire pressure to the signal device to actuate it when the pressure drops below a preset low pressure.

Low tire pressure sensor and air switch therefor

An air switch responsive to low tire pressure for emitting a pulse of air when a critical low tire pressure is achieved comprises a housing having a chamber ported to the internal tire pressure and a bellows within the chamber filled to a reference pressure. A passageway connecting the chamber to an outlet port is closed by a spring biased poppet valve. A pin on the moving end of the bellows is arranged to extend through the passageway to abut the poppet valve so that when low tire pressure causes bellows expansion, the pin will unseat the poppet valve to allow air pressure to escape from the tire through the outlet port. A second valve surrounding the stem on the bellows engages the chamber end of the passageway to close the same whenever the tire pressure reaches a second critical low pressure to stop the airflow through the outlet port.
