A method may use location information to transmit alert information to a communications device. Such a method may include receiving location information identifying a physical location of a mobile device; responsive to receiving an indication of communication intended for the mobile device, selecting an alerting tone based on the physical location of the mobile device; and providing instructions to adjust an alerting mechanism of the mobile device based on the selecting of the alerting tone. Other methods and systems are also provided.

Location-based alerting

Methods, systems, and products adapt gaming applications to participants. Should one of the participants be a minor, for example, the gaming application may adapt to scenarios that are appropriate for minors. Similarly, the gaming application may adapt to customs associated with a country of a participant.

A method of advertising tailored based on usage patterns of a portable electronic device includes determining if a portable electronic device has entered an area associated with a local area network (LAN). A link is established between the portable electronic device and the LAN if it is determined that the portable electronic device has entered the area associated with the LAN. User services are established between the portable electronic device and a remote server using the established link based on a user profile associated with the portable electronic device. Devices associated with the remote server communicatively coupled to the LAN are controlled using the portable electronic device. Advertisements are displayed and/or played on at least one of the controlled devices based on the tracked user actions and/or behaviors.

One embodiment of the present is a method of implementing privacy control of location information. Such a method comprises defining a geographic zone for which pseudo-location information is to be reported as the current location of the user, wherein the pseudo-location information is not the current location of the user; receiving the current location of the user; determining that the current location is in the geographic zone; and reporting the pseudo-location information as the current location of the user when the current location is determined to be in the geographic zone. Other methods and systems are also provided.

One embodiment of the present is a method of using location information to transmit alerting information to a communications device. Such a method comprises receiving location information regarding a communications device; selecting alerting information based on the location of the communications device; and transmitting to the communications device information pertaining to the alerting information. In a method of controlling the power state of a peripheral device, the peripheral is changed from a first power state to a second power state in response to communications across a network connected to the peripheral indicating that a user is proximately located to the peripheral. A user may be determined to be proximately located to the peripheral by monitoring communications across the network to detect traffic that is associated with a user logging onto a computer that can utilize the peripheral, by discovering a wireless terminal that is associated with a user and which is proximately located to the peripheral, by receiving information from a cellular communication network across the network that indicates that a user of the peripheral is proximately located to the peripheral, and/or in response to a time of day and/or day of week/month schedule.

An apparatus and method for providing a user interface for facilitating communications between devices are provided. According to one aspect, an interface device provides communications between a first device and a second device. The interface device has an input for receiving data in a first format from the first device. Logic within the interface device is configured to receive a request to interact with the interface device and to provide a user interface in response to receiving the request. The logic identifies a second device for receiving the data from the first device. The logic identifies a second format that is compatible with the second device and translates the data to the second format. The interface device further has an output for transmitting the translated data to the second device.

Apparatus and method for providing a user interface for facilitating communications between devices

Disclosed are systems and methods for authenticating use of a mark. In one embodiment, a system for facilitation, authentication, and authorization of the use of a mark comprises a mark owner server that receives registration information from a reseller server via a network that requests to use a mark. The mark owner server determines whether the reseller server is authenticated to use the mark. If the reseller server is authenticated to use the mark, the mark owner server sends a key to the reseller server. The mark owner server receives the key from the reseller server to access the mark via the network and determines whether the reseller server is authorized to use the mark based on the key. If the reseller server is authorized to use the mark, the mark owner server sends a first mark via the network to be displayed.

Dynamic authentication of mark use

An interface prompts a user to enter a marker during a communications session, in which the user is able to later provide a subsequent version of the marker. Initially, a first version of the marker is received from the user. A processor associates the first version of the marker received from the user with a particular position in an information tree and stores the particular position in the information tree associated with the first version of the marker. A second version of the marker is received from the user and in response, the user is returned to the particular position in the information tree that has been stored and associated with the first version of the marker received from the user.
