A multifunctional switch and impulse generator assembly are disclosed that include a fixed base part enclosing an electrical pulse generator. A rotatable upper part with an actuation knob is included. The electrical pulse generator is adapted to provide electrical pulses on one or more externally accessible terminals in response to clockwise and/or counterclockwise rotary motion of the actuation knob. A slide switch is operable by horizontal movement of the actuation knob between a first state and a second state. In the first state the first and second switch terminals are electrically interconnected and in the second state first and second switch terminals are electrically isolated.

A low profile eject stylus (104) has an outer shell (402) and outer shell (404). The main shell is smaller than the outer shell whereby the main shell can slide within the outer shell. The outer shell has a cross sectional configuration such that it is larger in one direction (A) than it is in another direction (B) orthogonal to the one direction, such that the eject stylus has a low profile. A tip (406) fits within the main shell at an end opposite to the outer shell. The outer shell as assembled over at least a portion of a plunger (408). A spring (412) is coupled to the plunger to bias the stylus into a fully extended position. The stylus can be advantageously employed in a portable device (100) having a housing section (102) including an opening (103) for receipt of the stylus. Guide rails (302, 306) guide the stylus in the housing.

The present disclosure includes a discussion of a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) chip card reader (201). In the preferred embodiment, the SIM chip card reader is integrated into and sealed to a radiotelephone. A battery (105) for the radiotelephone (103) retains the SIM chip card (401) in the SIM chip card reader (201) while the radiotelephone (103) is operating. The SIM chip card reader (201) also includes a ejector knob (405) for removing the SIM chip card (401) from the SIM chip card reader (201).

Apparatus for accepting and retaining a memory card

An apparatus to isolate a microphone from the speaker audio of a telephone handset, preventing feedback howl. The acoustic insulator consists of a single piece of pliable material that has a smaller diameter element (104) that extends through the handset housing. A hollow passage (102) extends the length of the insulator. The microphone (101) is inserted into the insulator in the larger diameter element (103). The insulator is held in the housing by overlapping ridges (105) encircling the outside of the larger element (103).
