In response to user selection of a workflow from among workflow menu options presented on a graphic user interface of a multifunction device, methods and systems automatically and dynamically create device-specific user interface screens that are used in execution of the selected workflow. The device-specific user interface screens comply with unique formatting requirements of the graphic user interface of the multifunction device upon which they are displayed. The device-specific user interface screens provide data input instructions on the graphic user interface, to which the user responds, allowing these methods and systems to receive workflow data into the graphic user interface. These methods and systems transmit the workflow data from the multifunction device to a computerized device over a computerized network. Thus, these methods execute the workflow (through the computerized device and/or the multifunction device) using the workflow data.

A method for creating an ordered reading list for a set of documents includes identifying the topics among documents in a document set; clustering the document set into groups by topic; calculating a probability that a particular topic describes a given document in a cluster based upon the occurrence of the keywords in the document; determining relevant documents in a cluster based on a probability distribution; determining relevant information in a document by repeating a similar operation on the document paragraphs; generating an ordered reading list for the related documents of the cluster based on the relevance; and associating a visual que with non-redundant information in each document to indicate which paragraphs contain the relevant information.

Methods and systems for automatically parsing the content of a user's browser history to extract information about that user's browsing habits, interests, likes, and dislikes utilizing text analytics and unsupervised machine learning. A topic model can be utilized to filter the display of web content and employ visualization techniques to highlight specific content (e.g. keywords) that correspond with the users specific tastes. The analysis can be as coarse or fine as the user desires and all of the analysis can be done locally on the user's own data processing device.

A method, system and computer-usable medium for ranking a networked rendering device with one or more or a set of visual cues. A client device can be configured with a rendering application in order to select and transmit a rendering job along with one or more job criteria to a back end system. Each network rendering device having one or more print capabilities can be evaluated based on the job criteria in order to generate an 'overall ranking' utilizing the back end system. Sorting the rendering devices based on the 'overall ranking' can generate a ranked list. Such ranked list can be displayed in a user interface associated with the client device based on a set of visual cues in order to permit a user to select a best-fit rendering device in a simple and efficient manner.

A method and system for identifying and acting on a handwritten action item is disclosed. The system may learn a set of user-defined symbols and associate each symbol with an action category. Then, when the system that captures a handwritten action item that includes one of the symbols, it will determine which action category that corresponds to the symbol, identify process parameters in the action item, determine a task to be performed based on the action category, and apply the process parameters to automatically perform the task.

Systems and methods for organizing a repository of unstructured documents into groups of ordered reading lists, i.e., document trails, comprising an ordered list of documents that relate to each by subject matter. Text analytics and natural language processing steps group documents, chose the most important/relevant documents from each group, and organize the documents into a suggested reading order. Document fragments are also analyzed by such analytic and processing steps to identify preselected fragment characteristic aspects. Documents within each document trail may be marked up or highlighted to indicate which paragraphs therein contain such aspects as novel or useful information, or information that is not useful or redundant.

Method and system for visual cues to facilitate navigation through an ordered set of documents

In the method and device, electronic documents are created from a batch of physical documents of varying lengths. The batch comprises sub-batches of groups of multiple multi-page physical documents with separator sheets on each group. Each separator sheet is marked with a page count for any physical documents in its group. The batch is scanned-in and the resulting image pages are used to form the electronic documents. Specifically, the image pages are analyzed in sequence to identify document sheet image pages and separator sheet image pages. When a separator sheet image page is identified, the page count on that separator sheet image page is read and electronic document(s) is/are created from sequential set(s) of document sheet image pages, which follow the separator sheet image page and have the specific page count, until the next separator sheet image page is identified. This is repeated for all separator sheet image pages identified.

A system and method for scheduling and executing jobs in a decentralized multifunction device (MFD) network is provided. The method includes receiving at an origin node of the network of MFDs a job, where the job includes data and a request to perform an operation on the data. MFDs of the network are selected to execute the requested operation on at least a portion of the job data. Portions of the job data are apportioned to the selected MFDs for processing thereof by executing the requested operation. The selecting and the apportioning are performed using historical information related to previous performance and reliability of the MFDs of the network.

Method and apparatus for using game mechanics to encourage smarter repository use by email users

Methods and a system for an electronic device to allow for riffling through pages of a document. A fore edge view of page edges is displayed in a user display of the device and enables pages to be turned to while skipping other pages via inputs received at the user display. The user display has a touch screen interface that senses touch on display. Motion is also detected and when the device is tilted or moved a motion sensed causes the fore edge view to be displayed. Inputs sensed by the touch screen interface cause the fore edge view to be displayed and also allow pages or section of the document to be held concurrently while pages are riffled to in the document. The held pages are easily returned to at will.

Interface that allows a user to riffle through pages of an electronic document

A method and system for matching distributed users with distributed MFDs is disclosed, which incorporates a MFD cloud, a back end unit, and a client application. The MFD cloud is composed of a large number of geographically distributed MFDs and can be logically divided into a public cloud and a private cloud. The back end unit maintains a persistent state of each MFD associated with the MFD cloud. The client application permits the distributed users to submit a rendering job in association with a job criterion to the back end unit which responds with a sorted list of nearby available MFDs that meet the job criterion. The user can select a MFD from the list and turn-by-turn directions from a user's current location to the selected MFD can be provided for collecting the rendering job. The system data can be kept current by periodically sending a status associated with each MFD.

Method and system for matching distributed users with distributed multi-function devices

A method and system for enabling automatic service sharing and custom user interface features in a fleet of multi-function devices. EIP (Extensible Interface Platform) services can be registered via a peer-to-peer discovery subsystem associated with a multi-function device grid infrastructure. EIP service registration information can be submitted and stored in the grid infrastructure. The multi-function devices can be equipped with an enterprise EIP client, which can query the discovery subsystem and apply a corporate policy. The discovery subsystem detects the optimal instance of the service based on loading and availability factors and then returns a reference with respect to the services that allows access to enhanced services. Such an approach enables a fleet of multi-function devices to dynamically discover EIP services and auto populate service options to provide increased capability, reduced complexity, and improved speed.

Method and system for automatic sharing and custom user interface features in a fleet of multi-function devices

A method and a system for storing, accessing, and retrieving data, the printing system including a plurality of multifunction devices (MFDs) in operable communication with a network, the plurality of MFDs configured to be positioned in different geographical locations; and a memory device for automatically storing the data generated by the plurality of MFDs; wherein an authorized user is enabled to print a document via a print request from a first MFD of the plurality of MFDs and then retrieve the document at any of the other MFDs on the network without re-sending another print request from the first MFD.

Method and system for automatically providing for multi-point document storing, access, and retrieval

A distributed data mining system and method for determining root cause of problems associated with a MFD cloud. The MFD cloud may be configured to include a fleet of networked MFDs within an enterprise firewall to perform data analytics in real time. High frequency data with describing the state of each MFD can be captured and stored locally in a file system (distributed or not). The high frequency data may be acquired at regular intervals and/or in response to a specific event with a much higher cadence and finer granularity than currently practiced. A distributed data mining module associated with the enterprise firewall may then continuously analyze the data stored within the cloud to identify actual, pending or, difficult to detect problems based on available computational cycles of idle MFDs in the network. The data associated with the problems may then be securely transmitted to a back-end unit to verify and propagate the results of the analysis of the problems more rapidly.
