A cosmetic pencil and sharpener comprises a cap and pencil portion having a sharpened head on a first end portion of the pencil, an elongated body and a second end portion. The cap includes a recess at one end to engage and cover the pencil head, an intermediate portion and a second closed end portion. The intermediate portion includes a raised angular section located adjacent a longitudinal slot in the cap wall. A blade is mounted to the angular section and extends downwardly into the slot. Rotation of the pencil sharpens the head against the blade while shavings drop outwardly from the slot due to a self-cleaning chisel point protrusion on the cap.

A cosmetic container including interleaved substantially vertical walls upwardly and downwardly extending respectively from a base component and from a product reservoir, with a further downwardly extending tongue projection from an underside of its cover, and in which cooperating detents on the tongue projection and on the reservoir pivot the cover open and closed, to form an internal hinge which is unobservable to a consumer, thereby providing a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to the container in both its opened and closed positions.

A dispensing jar including an inner component forming a pair of chambers in which ingredients can be stored, and an actuating cover having a recessed well for receiving the ingredients dispensed into the well through a pair of orifices by imparted rotation of the cover, and with the cover having a pair of offset paddles downwardly extending into the chambers such that rotation of the actuating cover dispenses the ingredients from each chamber simultaneously up through the orifices into the well for admixture.

A device for applying glitter particles and the like to a surface, has a container for storing said particles, said container having a discharge opening and a manually operable closure for closing the said discharge opening. The device has sifter means spanning the opening of the container, for effecting a sifter discharge of the container contents, and has a coaxially disposed handle means on the container, enabling the same to be readily shaken and manipulated for effecting said sifted discharge. The handle means comprises a vial having a top end and a bottom end, said vial being adapted to hold adhesive liquid and having a removable applicator device for applying said adhesive liquid to the surface which is to be coated.

A sifter cap for continuous thread containers of the type adapted to dispense a granular product. There is provided a screw cap adapted for securement to the container, and a sifter member disposed atop the screw cap and adapted for rotation with respect thereto. The screw cap has an annular, upwardly-facing bearing shoulder, and the sifter member has at least three downwardly-faced bearing nibs which slidably engage the bearing shoulder of the screw cap at relatively small areas of contact. The arrangement is such that the the sliding engagement between the screw cap and sifter member is characterized by reduced friction. In addition, in the event that granular product from the container strays onto the bearing shoulder of the screw cap, little resistance against rotation is encountered. As a consequence, there is thus enabled relatively smooth turning of the sifter member on the screw cap.

A cosmetic container comprises an insert which is preassembled to a brush by means of an undercut ring located beneath a brush flange and cooperating with an undercut recess in the throat of the insert. The insert walls are held by friction in the container and anchored externally to the container by a ring which extends peripherally from the threaded container wall. An undercut in the insert external flange engages the ring to complete the anchor. The insert is molded from polymer that repels the cosmetic product owing to molecular polarity. The insert functions as a sealing mechanism and a means to keep product from reaching the top of the container or on the container threads. The insert walls may also be shaped as a liquid inhibitor to retard flow from the container if the bottle is tipped over inadvertently.

A cosmetic jar and storage device comprises a substantially cylindrical body having a first recess for holding cosmetic and a second recess for holding an applicator. The recesses are separated by a transverse member into individual compartments. A pin-hinged base maintains the applicator in the lower compartment. The base may be swung completely open to facilitate viewing with an internally mounted mirror. The base and in alternate embodiments the cap are hinged on one side of the device while a recessed portion on the other side facilitates opening of the force fit base and cap.

A ball-applicator device for applying a cosmetic substance to the skin of a user, has a squeeze container in the form of an upright bottle which is molded of resilient plastic substance. The bottle or container has a relatively broad bottom surface by means of which it can be placed upright on a supporting surface, and has a tubular side wall construction which is adapted to be gripped by and held in the hand for manipulation and squeezing. The side wall construction can have generally the configuration of a pistol grip of mostly cylindrical cross section, being circular at its top. An externally threaded applicator head is disposed on the circular top of the side wall construction of the bottle. The applicator head has a reduced-diameter rim portion constituting an inwardly facing socket, in which a ball applicator member is held captive and exposed to the exterior for engagement with the skin of the user for the purpose of transferring cosmetic substance thereto from the bottle. An upper portion of the bottle is formed with a bellows configuration that is disposed below the top rim of the bottle, for enabling the threaded applicator head and applicator ball to be tilted angularly in various directions with respect to the lower portions of the bottle, thereby to permit the ball applicator member to face in different directions while the bottle is being hand held.

A cosmetic container consisting of a jar having an annular mouth portion and a sealing edge which extends along the mouth portion and is coextensive therewith, and having a screw thread extending along the mouth portion exteriorly of the sealing edge. The jar has a screw cap adapted to be threaded on the screw thread of the mouth portion, and the screw cap has sealing means which are engageable with the sealing edge of the jar for sealing the contents of the latter. The screw cap has a transparent window portion that enables the contents of the jar to be viewed from the exterior. The container is also provided with opaque means that conceals the screw thread and prevents its being viewed from the exterior of the jar.

A method of manufacturing disposable, single-use lipstick samplers by means of a dipping process. In a preferred form, a reservoir containing molten lipstick wax material is provided, and a spindle which is disposed above the reservoir is advanceable toward and retractable away from the reservoir. A plastic cup-shaped form having an apertured tip is applied to the spindle, which is thereafter advanced so as to submerge the tip of the form into the molten liquid wax material. The spindle and coated form are then removed from the reservoir, and a vacuum is applied through the spindle to the aperture of the tip of the form, so as to draw lipstick wax material therefrom and into the interior of the spindle. The form is allowed to cool so as to solidify the wax, and thereafter is fitted with a cover, removed, and suitably packaged.
