A method and apparatus for identifying information for a product. User input selecting a proxy object in a product design on a computer system is received. The proxy object refers to a number of product standards used in the product design and is associated with a component in the product design. A role of a user is identified. A request for standards information for the component is sent to an interpreter module. The role of the user is included in the request. The standards information is received in a format based on the role of the operator such that the standards information is displayed in the computer system.

A computer program product and method for interrogating data attributes in a product development environment is provided. In one embodiment, a computer program product includes a product development application that includes an interrogate data selection device. A product development datastore stores attribute data associated with at least one of a part item and an annotation item created by the product development application. A data interrogator module is initiated by the interrogate data selection device and retrieves the attribute data associated with at the least one of the part item and the annotation item from the product development datastore. Methods and systems for interrogating data attributes in a process environment

The present invention is directed to systems and methods for compiling production and planning information. In one embodiment, a system for planning the production of a product includes at least one database configured to store engineering information related to the product, and further configured to store process information related to the product, and a processor coupled to the at least one database to combine selected information from the at least one database to generate a manufacturing planning document that defines the product. In another embodiment, a method of generating a manufacturing bill of material for a selected product includes compiling a process data structure from the process information, compiling a product data structure from the engineering information, and generating a manufacturing bill of material by combining the process data structure and the product data structure.
