A method of entropy encoding image or video data may include entropy encoding a number of blocks independently and in parallel to generate a number of bit streams. At least one of the number of bit streams may include an assumed value in place of a value that would be determined by another bit stream. The method may also include selectively correcting the assumed value based on a value in another one of the number of bit streams. The number of bit streams may be combined into an output, entropy encoded bit stream corresponding to the number of blocks.

Parallel entropy encoding of dependent image blocks

Identifying content and authorizing sharing thereof based at least in part on extracting feature data from content to be shared and comparing this extracted feature data against a database of extracted feature data for various reference content. When the content to be shared is matched to reference content in the database, sharing may be simply rejected, or rights associated with the reference content may be inspected to facilitate determining authorization.

Identifying image content

A method and apparatus for decoding a bitstream. The method may include generating an indication of a number of coefficients and a number of trailing ones in a portion of a bitstream using either a first lookup table (LUT) indexed by a number of leading zeros to return a number of remaining bits in a code and a second LUT indexed by both the number of leading zeros and the remaining code bits to return the number of coefficients and the number of trailing ones or bit parsing processing when the leading zeros value equals a predetermined value, generating an indication of a number of total zeros, including using either a third LUT indexed by the number of coefficients and bits of the bitstream when the number of coefficients is in a first range or bit level processing when the number of coefficients is outside the first range, generating an indication of one or more run before values using either a fourth LUT indexed by the number of coefficients and bits of the bitstream when a zeros left value is in a second range or bit parsing processing when the zeros left is not in the second range, and generating coefficients in block positions in response to the generation of the trailing ones value, the number of coefficients value, the total zeros value and run before values.

Content adaptive variable length coding (CAVLC) decoding

Techniques for image edge filter processing are provided. Data samples surrounding vertical and horizontal edges of an image are acquired and iteratively processed. If the samples are associated with vertical edges, the data associated with the samples are transposed prior to applying a selected filter. The samples are stored in two buffers (one buffer for each unique side of an edge being processed) and selective filters applied thereon. Each sample set includes more than four samples of data. Once the filters are processed, the data in the buffers is written as portions of a modified image. If the samples were associated with vertical edges, then the data is re-transposed out of the buffers as it is written.

Image edge filtering

A method for evaluating an end-user's subjective assessment of streaming media quality includes obtaining reference data characterizing the media stream, and obtaining altered data characterizing the media stream after the media stream has traversed a channel that includes a network. An objective measure of the QOS of the media stream is then determined by comparing the reference data and the altered data.

Delivery of streaming media

In one embodiment, a method is provided. The method comprises loading a processor with data from a source buffer, the data representing pixels from a first color space, and the pixels being ordered for display in a first orientation, transforming the data into data within a second color space, and storing the transformed data in a destination buffer in an order for display in a second orientation.

Fast software rotation of video for portrait mode displays

Server-side determination of quality of service received by a client. Content is transmitted from the server to the client according to a protocol. During transmission, the protocol requires the client to periodically send the server statistics concerning the transmitting, e.g., lost packets, latency, or the like. The server simulates the network connection between the client and server based at least in part on the received statistics. The simulating allows the server to recreate, server-side, the content received by the client. The server may then compare what was sent to the client, versus the recreated received content, to determine a quality of service received by the client.

Server-side measurement of client-perceived quality of service

The performance of video encoding is characterized both over the short term (e.g., based on the previous encoded frame) and over the long term (e.g., based on the previous n encoded frames). An encoding parameter (e.g., the global quantization level) is selected for the current frame based on the short-term and long-term performance characterizations and the current frame is encoded using that selected encoding parameter. In a preferred embodiment, the global quantization (Q) level is permitted to change for only certain (i.e., adjustable) frames. In addition, the global Q level for key frames is generated using special processing which tends to allow the key frames to be encoded using more bits.
