A depth gauge leading the cutting edge in a cutter device has a body portion disposed in a substantially upright plane. The depth gauge includes a top plate portion cantilevered laterally over the body. A juncture section joins the depth gauge plate portion to the body of the cutter and is deformed intermediate its front and rear ends to strengthen the depth gauge against breakage.

A chain saw guide bar having identifying indicia to aid in the selection of a replacement guide bar and/or saw chain. A colored insert is installed in an aperture of the guide bar. The insert is colored to indicate the proper type of chain for the guide bar. Characters are stamped into the insert to indicate the mounting tail of the guide bar and the length of the saw chain required for the guide bar.

A hedge cutting bar is shown and described as having rivets for securing a cutting blade between a retaining blade and a stationary blade. The rivet structure includes a central flange and distal hubs whereby the central flange may occupy slots in the cutting blade while the hubs attach within respective mounting apertures of the stationary blade and the retaining blade. The thickness of the flange is greater than the thickness of the cutting blade whereby a gripping force provided by the rivet is taken up at the flange to avoid pinching of the cutting blade between the stationary blade and the retaining blade. The described fastening arrangement is less suspectable to loosening under the vibrational forces imposed during use of the hedge cutting bar than that of prior fastening arrangements.

A rod having one end adapted to be secured in the chuck of a power tool, said rod having a grinding portion for sharpening the cutting edge of a saw chain cutting link when rotatively driven by the power tool, and a guide fixture supported on said rod including guide surfaces adapted to rest on the top plate and depth gauge of the cutting link and thereby locate the grinding portion of the rod for proper sharpening of the cutting edge of the saw chain.
