This application provides an electronic wallet or passport case for controlling the opening, unlocking and locking of enclosures such as luggage, briefcases, lockers, cases, cabinets, vehicles, buildings, homes and with indirect operational control by the means of a smartphone, tablet or any personal computing device. More particularly, a Smartphone Controlled Biometric and Bluetooth Enabled Locking Smart Wallet System is provided. The Smartphone Controlled Biometric and Bluetooth Enabled Locking Smart Wallet System includes a biometric based finger print authentication module, and a Bluetooth communications enabled module, to prevent a non-owner or unauthorized user from accessing the device, along with mobile applications to control the Smart Wallet System using a smartphone. The smart wallet equipped unit may be replaced by any locking case such as a briefcase or luggage.

Additionally, when incorporated within an attachment for conventional personal digital assistant (PDA) or cell phone or stationary terminal, provides encrypted data from the magnetic head assembly providing compliance with Federal Information Processing Standards Publication Series FIPS 140 covering security and tampering standards. Moreover, this module and software system includes the capability of providing secure POS transactions to legacy transaction processing systems and POS terminals transparently to the existing infrastructure. Furthermore, this module and software system includes the capability of transparently providing detection of fraudulently copied magnetic stripe cards.

A method and apparatus for determining the distance between transitions from a first logical state to a second logical state stored on a medium (i.e., a document). This determination is used to precisely characterize the information pattern in order to authenticate the information and the medium on which the information is stored. The invention uses a reader having a leading and trailing read apparatus which allow information to be read simultaneously from two or more locations spaced a known distance apart. The distance between the centerlines of each read apparatus is preferably an odd integer multiple of one half the distance between logical clock transitions. The distance between a first transition at the leading read apparatus and a next transition at the trailing read apparatus is used as a reference (i.e., the 'Reference Value'). The Reference Value is compared with the distance between the first transition and the next transition on the medium (i.e., the 'Jitter Value'). Detection of an deviations in spacing between transitions is unaffected by variations in the velocity of the medium with respect to the reader.

Additionally, this PDA attachable MSR unit is capable of recognizing multiple magnetic encoding formats and data record formats and converting said formats to a standardized output format, includes the capability of updating and adding new formats while in field service, and is readily allows verifying card data and encoding sensitive material prior to transmission to the PDA. Device for secure read, write and read/modify/write operation with divided track transducer head

A magnetic head assembly with dual parallelogram supporting structure device and method of making the same has a single or multiple track magnetic stripe read head transducer mounted to a support structure by a dual parallelogram spring structure. This dual spring structure allows the head to move perpendicularly and rotationally to the magnetic stripe while preventing the head from rotating in the y direction, namely, preventing lateral movement. The novel magnetic head assembly is produced using a rapid and accurate assembly without the use of mounting screws in single and multiple track configurations. The unique spring also reduces wear on the magnetic heads which increases the functional life of the unit. The simple construction allows inexpensive manufacture of the magnetic head assembly, yet the durability of available manufacturing materials and the structure of the spring provide the magnetic head assembly with a long useful life, requiring little or no maintenance expense or upkeep.

A method and apparatus for reading and writing data to a medium which moves at an uncontrolled velocity relative to a read/write apparatus with which the data is read and written. The read/write apparatus comprises one write head and two read heads. The first read head is spaced apart from the second read head by an odd integer multiple of one half of a bit cell. The two read heads read preexisting data from the medium and generate a write clock which is used to synchronize a write operation using the write head. Delay logic ensures that the write head is over that portion of the medium on which new data is to be written. By measuring the amount of time between detection of a transition at the first read head and detection of that transition at the second read head, the velocity of the medium with respect to the read/write apparatus is determined and the amount of time that must elapse between the reading of old data and the writing of new data which overwrites the old data is determined. A write clock decoder receives a pulse associated with each transition read by either the first or the second read head, and outputs a write clock synchronized to the velocity of the read/write apparatus with respect to the medium based upon these received pulses. By spacing the two read heads apart by an odd multiple of one half the bit cell, either the first or the second read head will always detect a transition at each half bit cell. Thus, the write clock will have a transition each half bit cell.
