Apparatus for protecting a user from impacts to the head. The apparatus includes a shell configured to receive a human head and a face mask coupled to the shell by a plurality of biasing mechanisms. The face mask is configured to reorient relative to the shell upon impact. The biasing mechanisms return the face mask to its original relative position after impact.

Apparatus for protecting a user from impacts to the head. The apparatus includes a shell configured to receive a human head and a plurality of structures attached to the outer surface of the shell. Each structure includes an outer cell that absorbs direct impacts. Each structure is independently coupled to the shell with a respective assembly. The structures move independently of one another and are restricted to sliding tangentially along the outer surface of the shell. The assemblies each include a biasing mechanism that absorbs tangential impacts to the structure and returns the respective structure to its rest position. Thus, a user is protected from the concussive effects of a head-on impact and the rotational acceleration injuries of a tangential impact.

Helmet for tangential and direct impacts

A protector allows for the engagement and protection of a segment of an upright from an impact force by an external object and for absorbing and damping the resulting impact force. The protector comprises a protector body and a shim. The protector body allows engagement and positioning of the protector on at least a segment of the upright. The protector body is also partially constructed of an energy absorbing and damping material and having an outer surface and an inner surface. The outer surface is positionable to receive the impact force from the external object. The inner surface is positionable to abut the upright, when the protector is in engagement with the upright. The shim is least partially embedded in the protector body and provides increased structural support for the protector body. The shim also has a stiffness different than the stiffness of the protector body.

A passive damper for earthquake hazard reduction includes an inner member received in an outer member, with an elastomeric material disposed in the gaps between the inner and outer member. The elastomeric material has at least a first and a second portion. The first portion is bonded or connected to both the inner member and outer member such that no slippage occurs between the members and the material. The second portion is not bonded or connected to at least one of the inner and outer members such that slippage may occur.

Compressed elastomer damper for earthquake hazard reduction

This invention provides a flooring apparatus comprising: (a) a flooring plate; (b) a plurality of columns extending from an underside of the flooring plate, wherein at least some of the columns deform when the flooring plate is subjected to a pressure equal to or greater than a critical buckling pressure; and (c) a matrix material in at least partial contact with the columns. The present disclosure includes many variations of such apparatus, such as various column designs, material selection criteria, and end-use considerations. This invention also provides a flooring system for mitigating injuries associated with falls, the system comprising a plurality of flooring apparatus each provided in accordance the present disclosure. The flooring system can include one or more types of modular tiles, or any other configuration (such as mats).

Flooring apparatus and systems for improved reduction of impact forces during a fall

A moving tracks dozer equalizer link elastomeric bearing assembly including a concentric outer member operable for securely engaging a equalizer link bore structure associated with a first end portion of an equalizer link structural member, wherein the concentric outer member is disposed substantially within the equalizer link bore structure. The dozer equalizer link elastomeric bearing assembly also including a concentric inner member operable for securely engaging a pin structure associated with a second moving track roller frame assembly structural member, wherein the concentric inner member is disposed substantially within the concentric outer member. The dozer equalizer link elastomeric bearing assembly further including an elastomeric section disposed between the concentric inner member and the concentric outer member, wherein the elastomeric section is bonded to an outer surface of the inner member and an inner surface of the outer member, and wherein the elastomeric section is operable for accommodating axial, cocking, and torsion motions of the second moving track roller frame assembly structural member pin structure relative to the first equalizer link structural member.

Method of making a dozer maintenance repair for a dozer equalizer link using an elastomeric bearing assembly

A storage rack vibration isolator for a storage rack system installed on a floor comprising a first mounting plate connectable to the storage rack system, a second mounting plate connectable to the floor. An elastomeric component extending between these mounting plates and is operatively attached to them so that during seismic events the first and second mounting plates remain attached to the elastomeric component as the elastomeric component is placed in shear while the first and second mounting plates are able to move in planes substantially parallel to each other. The elastomeric component comprises at least one elastomeric member made of material that is capable of absorbing and dissipating the energy of ground movement imparted to the storage rack system during seismic events, while the material enables the storage rack system to move a sufficient distance relative to the floor to lower the natural frequency of the storage rack system in at least one horizontal direction.

A storage rack system to be installed on a floor has a plurality of columns, is more flexible in a down aisle dimension than it is in a cross aisle dimension, and has at least a first column and a second column adjacent one another in the cross aisle dimension. A storage rack vibration isolator for use with this storage rack system comprises at least one seismic vibration absorption and dissipation structure constructed to be located primarily between the first and second columns to reduce the storage rack system's natural frequency in at least the cross aisle dimension. The seismic vibration absorption and dissipation structure includes a first member connectable to the storage rack system and a second member connectable to the floor. At least one column support assembly is mountable to at least the first and second columns to enable them to move with respect to the floor. A structure limits the movement of the first and second columns to substantially the cross aisle dimension.

Storage rack vibration isolators and related storage rack systems

A mount with a first attachment member; a second attachment member spaced from the first attachment member; and resilient members joining the first and second attachment members, each of the resilient members having at least one void, the voids being collapsible under loading between a first open void condition where the mount has a first substantially constant stiffness, and a second collapsed condition where the voids are substantially closed, the mount having a second substantially constant stiffness when the voids are in the second collapsed condition.

A pneumatic tool is disclosed which includes vibration mounts to reduce the amount of vibration transferred to the user. The vibration mounts include a pair of support members and at least one resilient vibration isolator connecting the support member in a spaced relationship. A compressed air conduit passes through the support member openings but is only directly fastened to one of the support members.

A vibration-reduced impact tool is disclosed wherein an elastomeric vibration isolator is fixedly attached within the tool housing and functions to absorb the vibration typically transmitted from the handle to the operator. The isolator is mounted between the cylinder assembly and the handle. As the tool is operated, a piston within the cylinder assembly is driven forward where it impacts with a tool accessory. The impact causes the piston and cylinder assembly to slide rearward in the tool housing, toward the handle. The elastomeric isolator absorbs the rearward movement of the cylinder assembly and thereby eliminates much of the vibration normally transmitted from the cylinder assembly to the handle and in turn, to the operator.

An auxiliary torsional damper of the surface-effect type capable of damping torsional spikes which may occur during operational transition through the system's resonance frequency. Preferably, the auxiliary damper will be designed with a decoupling feature such that the damper will only provide auxiliary torsional damping for torsional oscillations which surpass a threshold amplitude. Since the surface-effect damper is deflection dependent, the larger the magnitude of the torsional spike, the larger the damping that will be applied thereto.
