The dual chamber dispenser consists of two tubular chambers each of which is connected to a pump. The pumps are self-priming and are of a type that draw the substances from the tubular chambers. There is an activator which also serves as the top of the dispenser, side view apertures, a foot for better stability and a spout that is angled for enhanced dispensing. The side view apertures allow for viewing the fill level of the tubular chambers. The pumps are of a type having an upper valve and a lower valve, with the upper valves a part of the piston's that move in and out of the pumping chambers. The valves in said pumps are positive closing by means of a biasing spring. The substances to be dispensed are maintained separate, one from the other, until the substances are dispensed.

A multichamber container must have certain characteristics in order to uniformly dispense the contents of each chamber from the container. The outer wall of the container and the inner divider web walls must have certain characteristics. The inner divider web walls must be highly flexible while the outer container wall must be less flexible. The Deflective Force for the outer wall must be greater than the Deflective Force for the web walls. In addition, to alleviate the problem of suckback of air into the container chambers, the outer wall should exhibit a specific Retention Index. This is a measure of the outer wall to remain deflected after the removal of the deflecting force. The inner divider web wall will have a lower Retention Index than the outer wall. By the proper selection of outer wall and web walls, there can be uniform dispensing from the dispenser. The Stiffness of the outer wall also should be less than the Stiffness for the inner web divider walls. This can be accomplished by the choice of films and the thickness of the outer wall film and the inner divider wall film.

Uniform dispensing multichamber tubular containers

The dual chamber tubular container is closed at one end by a crimp seal and at the other end has a dispensing opening with a dividing wall. This dividing wall is attached longitudinally to the tubular chamber sidewalls and extends from the crimp seal to the dispensing opening divider wall. The divider wall of the dispensing exit as offset from the crimp seal about 75.degree. to about 110.degree. C. and preferably about 90.degree.. This enhances the uniform dispensing of the two contained sub stances.

Any voids in the divider walls of multichamber packages, and in particular, multichamber tubes, can be detected by applying a potential difference across the divider walls of the package. If there is a void, there will be an arcing of current from one electrode to another with a measurable difference in the potential difference between the electrodes. There also may be a visual and/or audible indication. This change in potential difference can be used to determine the integrity of the divider walls of the package. In a preferred mode, the electrodes also are the mandrel mold sections that are used for the compression molding of the shoulder and nozzle onto the body of a tube package. In this embodiment the integrity of the divider walls can be determined prior to the forming of the shoulder and nozzle onto the tube body or after the shoulder and nozzle is formed onto the tube body.

Method and apparatus for package wall testing

The dispenser is a rigid type multi-chamber, refillable dispenser where only the substance containing chambers need to be discarded and replaced. At the point of the chambers interconnecting into the upper portion of the dispensers there is a cutter to break the seal on the chambers. In operation stabilized piston rods fit into each chamber and push against pistons having a deformable upper surface to expel the substance. The refill chambers have off-center exit openings whereby the distance to the dispenser nozzle exit is minimized. The push rods are stabilized by being of a size and shape to be proximate the walls of the chambers while actuating the pistons.

In the manufacture of multichamber tubular containers it has been found that the inner divider walls should be bonded to the exterior wall by means of a band sealing method. In the band sealing method there is a band that contacts the upper film and a band that contacts the lower film that are to be bonded. In the present processes the upper band contacts the inner divider wall while the lower band contacts the exterior surface of the outer wall of the tubular container. In order to prevent the marring or otherwise putting a defect into the exterior surface of the outer wall the temperature of the lower band is maintained at a lower temperature than the upper band. This will decrease the temperature of the exterior surface of the outer wall and prevent imperfections in the exterior surface of the outer wall. The advantage is a multichamber tubular container without any imperfections in the exterior surface. This enhances the overall appearance of the tubular container.

Method for making tubular containers

Dispenser

A dispensing container is produced from a disposable flexible, collapsible inner container surrounded by a resilient outer container. A dispensing cap assembly is removably coupled to the outer container to define a dispensing outlet for the contents of the inner container. The dispensing cap assembly includes a cap having an outlet coupled to the inner container. The inner container is attached to a support hanger which in turn is supported by the outer container. The cap has a dispensing outlet coaxially disposed with the outlet of the inner container. A dispensing check valve is provided in the cap assembly to allow the material to be dispensed without air being drawn into the container at the end of the dispensing cycle. The contents of the inner container are dispensed by squeezing the outer container to deform the side walls and create an increased pressure within the outer container causing the contents to be expelled through the dispensing check valve. The side walls are then allowed to relax which draws air into the container through air inlet check valve. The support hanger includes a depending skirt extending about midway into the outer container. The inner container is attached to the lower end of the skirt and at the upper end of the hanger.

A detergent laundry pouch constructed of a pair of web layers having detergent therebetween and sealed along the periphery of the pouch. The web material contains primarily crimped fibers of water sensitive material which loses its crimp when immersed in the laundry liquor, thus forming interstices which can pass the particles of detergent.

A laundry detergent pouch comprising a non-woven web of non-woven sensitive material normally having interstices capable of passing laundry detergent powder. The web is compressed and bonded, while compressed, to hold the fibers in compressed condition filling the interstices to prevent passage of detergent powder outwardly thereof.

A litter box liner comprising a rectangular absorbent pad having a waterproof backing sheet provided with absorbent material thereon. Glue lines or spots are provided on the top face thereof for holding the liner in a box-like configuration conforming to the contours of the litter box. Other glue lines or spots are provided on the bottom surface of the backing sheet for adhesively bonding the liner to the litter box.

A disposable pad for odor prevention comprising a fluid impervious backing sheet, a top sheet and a pad sandwiched between the backing sheet and said top sheet, said pad being formed substantially of hydrophobic fibers so as to quickly disperse liquid waste for rapid evaporation.

An animal waste collection pad having a backing sheet of fluid impervious material, a non-woven top sheet thereon. An absorbent pad is disposed on the backing sheet and the pad contains a scent, attractive to dogs. The scent may be provided by a frangible capsule, a micro encapsulated scent incorporated in the pad or a spray applied to the pad. There are tapes or drawstrings attached to the backing sheet for tying the animal waste collection pad into a small compact package for disposal.
