This invention relates to modified bimetallic or polymetallic (other than Groups IA, IIA and IIB metals) catalysts and the use thereof in the preparation of alkoxylation products, i.e., condensation reaction products of alkylene oxides and organic compounds having at least one active hydrogen. In another aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing the modified bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts for alkoxylation using a divalent or polyvalent metal or a divalent or polyvalent metal-containing compound as sources for the catalytically-active metal. In a further aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing alkoxylation products that have beneficial, narrow molecular weight ranges using the modified bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts.

Alkoxylation catalysis

This invention relates to heterogeneous (organic polymer-supported) calcium-containing catalysts and the use thereof in the preparation of alkoxylation products, i.e., condensation reaction products of alkylene oxides and organic compounds having at least one active hydrogen. In another aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing heterogeneous (organic polymer-supported) calcium-containing catalysts for alkoxylation using calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide as sources for the catalytically-active calcium. In a further aspect of this invention, alkoxylation products are provided that have beneficial, narrow molecular weight ranges and are essentially neutral in pH and free from catalyst residues.

Alkoxylation using heterogeneous calcium catalysts and products therefrom

A continuous process for efficiently co-producing secondary alcohols of long-chain olefins and lower carboxylic acid esters, comprising (I) performing an acid/olefin reaction in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst such as Amberlyst 15, and (II) performing an ester-exchange reaction in the presence of, e.g., titanium alcoholate. A desirable feature of the process is the ability to produce co-products of choice.

Continuous process for producing secondary alcohols and carboxylic acid

Narrow, balanced alkoxylation product mixture distributions having at least one alkoxylation product constituting more than 20 weight percent of the mixture can be provided by modified, calcium-containing catalysts. (N-Substituted carbamoyloxy) alkanoyloxyalkyl acrylate esters produced by reacting an hydroxyalkyl acrylate with a lactone monomer and capping the resulting adduct with an isocyanate. The resulting product is useful in ink, paint or adhesive formulations curable by thermal or radiation means.
